Okay here's my question....
As Bill & Lynn have given me permission to convert 90% of their aircraft to native Fsx format which one would you like converted first ?

I'll take any! There's a thread in the SOH FsX forum about porting over the PA22 Tri-Pacer so how about that?

I'd like to see the Luscombe again too.

I've managed to get the Luscombe into Gmax and export it with fsx native textures (shadowing) etc but.... Because Bill was such a genius with his xml gauge programming I could not make the original gauges work because they are from fs98, and I believe it wouldn't be right to use some other gauges instead, As well as me not knowing the first thing about custom animations. I just can't do it justice here's how far I got Craig

Looks wonderful Craig! Be a shame to leave it there. What if we could get gauge guy to look at it?

One of the nagging little irritants in FSX is the "broken by design" feature that flags older XML gauges as "FS98" gauges. There are a few "features" like this that would work fine in FSX _EXCEPT_ that code was intentionally added to FSX to make them NOT work. Bottom line, bringing any of Bill's planes into FSX will require new gauges.

Hmmm... I don't quite understand why Microsoft would intentionally make them incompatible But then again why would they end their line of Flight Simulator after 20 years, crazy ! I can see why so many developers gave up on FSX, so many years creating their aircraft for FS9 only to find out that 10% works in FSX, they must have lost a lot of support from freeware designers. Anyway I'll have a fiddle with some gauges that work and see how it shapes up. Craig

Bill & Lynn have given me permission to convert 90% of their aircraft to native Fsx format... That would seem to be quite an honor. Congratulations Craig. My hat is off to you for taking the initiative to update these fabulous aircraft. And that would be a lot of aircraft wouldn't it? You are off to a good start, that Luscombe looks great!

I just can't do it justice here's how far I got Craig There are a couple of challenges that come to mind in making Bills models FSX native. All of them, I believe surmountable. First off is that Bill used Abacus's product FSDS to built most of his models in version 2 which used SCASM to compile the models for Flight Sim and used XML gauge programming to create many of his great effects and animations. The later version 3 adopted MakeMdl to compile. The significance I believe is that the source file would probably be better manipulated using FSDS and animations created using version 3.5 which compiles for FSX. Whats nice is the both version 3 and 3.5 allowed the builder to access the stock animations supported by both FS9 and now FSX, making the XML programming method of animations unnecessary. When building and compiling for FSX the gauges are mapped in a completely different way that for FS9. The gauge polygon texture is different and the they are mapped with the Y axis inverted. I have a complete set of generic gauges that I'll donate to the project, if needed. Craig, I'm happy to help you with the project. Give me a PM or e-mail. Best Paul

Wow, will you clever guys who know how to do these things please do everything you can to make this one happen. What an amazing possibility - having all of Bill's lovely old stuff brought up to date. 'Everything old is new again' would be a total understatement

OK guys, I've been spending a lot of time on this and..... its turning out alright ! If you want to give it a go here's a link, please note that its far from completion but I believe it looks quite good if anyone want to tweak the contact points or the flight dynamics please feel free. www.classicwings.net/freeplanes/custom_classicsx/LuscombeX/test.zipCraig

The Luscombe looks great Craig, and it likes to fly. On runway 17 with the wind at 168 and 10kts, it lifted off in a hurry. The FBO wasn't crazy about me driving spikes in the asphalt for tie down, but I told him, "Hey man, it's only a test". Thanks for the opportunity to try it out. PS. Nice prop/blur.

My two favorites are the Ryan STA & the Kellet Autogyro. I tried both in FSX 2 years ago - STA - minor texture problems and 1 gauge problem which I sorted with Panel Studio Kellet - major texture problems. I don't recall any gauge problems
