Really enjoying the screenshots! I'm moving the thread to AirCoasters's scenery forum as requested. Thanks Roger!!!! I'll try to post more screenshots.......some of the places traveled are amazing!!! Nige.......glad you're enjoying the postings....(smile). John......I sat down last evening for about 4 hours.....my time fly's when playing this game. For some strange reason, I never did get Lydia this time through......but then again, I don't recall being made a Thane of Whiterun either......hmmm.....might have to check that out. I usually hire my help....(smile) Across the street from your Whiterun home is a little shop with a Dark Elf (I think) you can hire. Playing the first time, I thought she was a better fighter then Lydia....plus she talks more and seems to think on her own better. I'm playing a little different this time through.....picked up the house in Solitude and was made a Thane there.....still however, the House Carl hasn't showed up. No biggie...... I tend to fight on my own most of the time......I like taking those long archery shots. I might make it back in this evening some...... I have a couple ideas I want to try out. I finally got myself back up to level 30......I was at 57 when I started over.....but at 30, I can now be a little more adventurous and take a few more risks. I need to get back up to the college and do that quest line......it's a good one and you pick up a lot of spells etc., which I like. Before starting over, I had two demon guys that I could conjour up. Can't remember where or how I got them.....but they worked awesome. I'd sneak in to a "hot" undetected.......then summon them up and let them do most the fighting, while I hung back and took out the stragglers with my archery. That seemed to work pretty good. This time, I haven't acquired those guys yet......I only have two wolves.....one regular and one flame wolf. I haven't used them much.....don't think they are as effective as I am with the archery. I've leveled up my archery now to where a hit will usually at least knock the bad guys down......even the trolls. I might add....... out of the 4 hours last evening....... at least 3 hours of that was areas I seemed to miss the first time through the game. AMAZING!!!!! Cheers,

Wow Steve, you are a heavy hitter. I just arrived at level 11 on Monday. But the key is I have a lot of fun with this game even though I may only get an hour maybe an hour and a half in daily. I'm not one to use the teleports as I love the side adventures that can take you to new places. I have been working with the Companions, Aela, and doing mercenary work. There's not a lot of coin in it, but the booty and skils improvements are excellent. I guess I spend a lot of time clearing hideouts and crypts, taking the booty Lydia and I can carry, and then returning for more later.
Amazing for the short time you have been playing since the recovery. I must be doing this wrong, or just plain enjoying the travels. Crafting always helps with leveling, but I am still not strong enough in any area that will allow me to approach the higher schools of learning, High Hrothgar and the Mage College at Winterhold.
But, like you said, its your game and you play as you see fit. I suppose one day I will restart and get my toon the way I want it.
I'll have more screenies tonight, some northern light maybe.

Wow Steve, you are a heavy hitter. ;D.....I'd like to think so, but trust me my friend....that's not the case. Just a LOT of hours experimenting has gotten me to where I'm at. I did learn (either was told or read.....I forget which) .....one easy way to level up your illusion capabilities.....is use "muffle" under magic. I have my "partner" go to sleep.....then start using the "muffle" spell. Seems to level up pretty quickly for a time being. (I'm at level 100 currently for Illusion) Probably my imagination....but seems the leveling up is faster if the other person is asleep??? I don't know....just seems that way. To level up my conjuring...... I use the "Soul Trap" to level faster. After I kill a bandit (and it's safe of course)...... I stand over the body and use soul trap on them. I've been told it will work for anything dead......but it seems that a dead person rather than a dead animal works better. My conjure is at 85 I think......still need to work on that one. Like you......I enjoy roaming the country side exploring. Starting over, I thought I had explored pretty much everything around Whiterun.......Oh, was I ever wrong!!! I've found a BUNCH of places I had never been before....and a few "side quests" I didn't know existed. Got to love this game!!! Well......my unannounced Audit I had planned for today fell through (guy was out of town....) so I decided to clean up the office a bit...... work some on the computer IF I get a chance........maybe a little nap thrown in as I was up late playing last evening... (smile).....and perhaps an hour of SR before dinner this evening. Some days just turn out nice. (smile) Cheers,

OMG!!, I'm not certain who is worse, our two sons or John. I guess I will have to vote our two sons, they come home from work, do their chores and spend the rest of the night on Xbox. John at least spends only an hour or two per session. There are days when he never touches the game, so he places his school work and the house before the game. I'm not certain I care or those six hour binges on Saturday night or Sunday.
Now they have me playing it. I have a male Orc named Oskrath, but only level two, so I just started. Interesting creature, and quite strong.
I had to get my two cents in on this.

Interesting creature, and quite strong. ;D.....Glad to see you're enjoying the game also Barbara.....haven't talked to you in ages. (smile) You know...........I've thought several times about playing as an Orc as there would be huge advantages I think. In my previous game, I was challenged by an Orc Chief to a fist fight. Hmmm......don't think I'll make that mistake again as he was VERY strong and made short work of the match. I've been playing as a Breton named Eujo.....strengths in the Conjuration and Mage, then I try to develop my archery as I go. Good luck......this is one of the most addictive games I've played in years, but have found it to be very relaxing, exciting and extremely enjoyable!! Cheers,

As promised, more images. This time we were on our way to Winterhold, departing Whiterun at dusk. While taking a short side path, Silendra gets a bit brave as the Giant approaches her very cautiously while threatening at the same time. Eventually, she had her butt slammed skywards, like a couple thousand feet, as the Giant finally attacked her. I was totally surprised as I thought it would eventually stop and take a stance, instead he attacked. Here our adventures take a short break from fighting Ice Sabre Cats, three infact, on their way to Winterhold, to enjoy the night sky. The Northern Lights are beautiful in this game along with many other effects. All in all, the trip was quite fun although I never was able to cast the spell that was required of me to enter the Mage's College at Winterhold. So, that will have to wait untill I get better at magic. Aww Babs, you know I love you more than my luggage. She can't take her eyes off the screen when playing, so I have to remind her to manage her time........ ;D

You know John...... I thought I saw you out on the road tonight. (smile) I left Whiterun a little earlier I guess but am now enrolled in the college. (That's a fun quest.)
The next time you go back, the entrance "spell" will probably be different. I had to summon a flame "thingy" (forget what they are called......see.....I need some schooling. (smile)).
That's a good quest and you'll pick up some need spell stuff there.
Cheers,

I spent an hour playing last night trying to improve some of my skills and failed miserably at it. I'll get there eventually, I am use to playing MMOs and they play so much differently. The small things count as they eventually lead to more improved skills. So, I raid as many hideouts and crypts as possible getting the little stuff like ingredients and iron ore to help move up the ladder to potion creation and smithing. Then I spend time trying to develope those abilities and not do anything other than that. Its hard to stay focused on so much that needs to be done. And, an hour just isn't enough time to do what one wants to do.
I've been to the Mage's College three times now trying to figure what the magika level needs to be to cast the spell. It seems to be somewhere around 200. Yah, everytime I go there the required spell to cast is different.
And, High Hrothgar, the Ice Troll near the entrance is just too powerful for me at this point in the game, even with health and stamina poitions on-board. Fire damage seems to be the only thing that really damages the troll. I use my shout long enough to be able to load my potions or change magic. My fire hammer does damage to it, but even with the once on fire damage, it still doesn't do the job properly. Not sure if it needs to be totally charged to be effective or not. Giving that quest to a lower level player is totally wrong.
The adventures continue.

Yes indeed......it does take time to develop things as needed.
Hmmm.....The ice troll.....I don't remember having too much trouble with it. I'm assuming you have Lydia along so she should help fight. If you have purchased a horse, one you get off it too will help with the battle.
I use "sneak" a LOT in the beginning of the game as it improves your sneaking capabilities. (ctrl key to toggle.) While sneaking......I try to get a couple of long range shots off to damage the beast. If you've picked up better arrows along the way......remember to give at least 1 to Lydia.....then she will have an unlimited supply of the better arrows.
I'm not sure how much magica you need for entering the college.......I think mine is around 340 right now as I concentrate on developing it first....then stamina and really don't do much with health until after I get the other two to 300. I figure.....I can be as healthy as a horse but unless I can fight, I'm going to die. (smile) Previously I posted about the "muffle" increase on my illusion. That will get you to level up pretty quickly. Every time I level up I usually go for the magica...... and then start working on my sneak and archery as needed. You can also talk to the cat people outside Whiterun. One of them...(I forget which).... will teach you sneak at 500 gold per ability. (You can do 5 each time you level up.) There's others around Skyrim that will teach you certain abilities faster.....some magic.....some fighting, etc., I talk to EVERYONE however, it is time consuming.
Oh yeah......another thing I learned from the first time playing........ I pick up and open EVERY book. Some will have spells you will get.....others have abilities or increases you will receive etc. While I don't read all of them....some are rather entertaining. I found one last evening at the college. It was a story you would read and it would give you choices......(example: Climb the stairs....go to page 19 .....descend the stairs.......go to page 6.) Anyway.... once you went to the next page....it would do the same. Tell part of the story and give you two choices again along with two different pages to go to. Very nicely done and entertaining. I might try to steal that book just to take back to my porch in Solitude to read over a cold Nord Mead. (smile)

Had a GREAT battle last evening..........and I mean BATTLE!!!! I was in a large room and these Demon Dramora would keep spawning themselves......incrediable!!!!!! By far, the hardest battle I've had to fight to date!!!!!!
Didn't get to bed until after 2 a.m., (smile)........this game is going to be the death of me.
What I'm finding very interesting...... some of these scenerios I'm running into this time through played differently the first time. One of the side quests where you pick up 3 books......the first time through I fought my way through the cave until I faced "The Caller" etc. Through the conversation, The Caller gave me the books.......wasn't real happy about it, but gave them to me none the less. (Of course I wacker her after I had what I wanted anyway.......but still.....I talked my way through.)
This time through......nothing doing, it was a fight to the finish, and she is pretty tough customer.
I think the game must adjust to your skill level perhaps? I'm much farther along skill wise then I was the first time I met "The Caller."
Hmmm.....something to ponder anyway.
Cheers,

Well, I have actually taken two days off from playing Skyrim, amazing, but I think that had to do with the school session change over as I had course requirements to complete. I may get a chance to get some time in today with the game.
Stay tuned.

Well............I've played enough for the both of us this week.....and then some. (smile) Finally have my conjuration, illusion & destructive spells up to 100......and most of the other "important" traits to at least 55 or better. Stamina & Magica are up there 380+ but health is still a little low 270, however, I'm now quite comfortable fighting almost any beast. I think I'm finally back to level 63.....I can't remember where I was at before the start over, but I think around 60. Started working on my smithing & enhancing weapons stuff....and have some nice things. I still prefer the bow, however, if I get spotted by some strange reason, I've found a short and long saber and a full force frontal rush will usually take care of the little problem before taking too much damage. (smile) I've completed a couple pretty cool quests and thought I'd start taking care of some of these misc. side quests. However, the amazing part to me STILL...... if you look at my map, I have only explored perhaps a quarter of the territory. Well.....back to SR for an hour or so before the girls (wife & daughter) get up for breakfast. Hmmmm........think I'll just go look for trouble somewhere this morning. (smile) Cheers, Out on patrol in my new Ebony Mail Armor............ Back in my one of my trophy rooms just relaxing. (smile)
