Vin, here's a coincidence for you. I flew yesterday in conditions that were a tad tricky as it happens, and when I was putting 56NE to bed, a car drove across the grass of the apron over to where I was. A very charming gentleman got out and came across to introduce himself. He'd heard about me and I'd heard about him but this was the first time we'd met. It was André who also flies from Galinat and who has an aircraft that is like a Pou de Ciel with folding wings that he keeps in a barn close by. He told me that he's flown just the once so far this year but looks forward to getting quite a few more flights in as the weather improves. He said that the wind was a bit too much of a problem for him yesterday. André is 90 years of age. We nattered in French, as he speaks no English, for several minutes and I found it a great pleasure to make his acquaintance. I hope that I'm still as enthusiastic about flying and as full as life as he is when I'm his age Roger

There was a spot landing competition at the last summer fly in and barbecue that I attended at my old flying club in Britain and one of the guys was showing off a bit to a rather plump young lady that he'd taken along as passenger. On about his third effort in an attempt to hit the spot dead on with his main wheels he slightly misjudged it and dropped it down from rather too great a height. Usually these little ultralights have very forgiving undercarriages and apart from going 'boing' and leaving you with a bit of a red face when you're having a beer with the other club members afterwards, that would be it. However on this occasion, possibly because of the somewhat excessive weight he was carrying he being not exactly sylph-like himself, he exceeded even those limits and one of the axles holding a main wheel snapped off completely. This brought the aircraft to an immediate halt and made it do a complete 360 degree pirouette in the middle of the runway, to the applause of all of his mates who were watching and halting the competition until a group had picked it up and carried it off to the sidelines after the pilot and his lady passenger had somewhat inelegantly vacated the now rather skew-wish aircraft Roger
