Yeah...I saw that follow-up from Vicki. Oh dear - I still laugh out loud at those shows. There's another classic with Tim and Harvey in a dentist surgery which brings tears to my eyes!
Great times....gee, I miss that kind of TV....now we seem to have nothing but endless "reality" crap.

Yes Bruce....the Dentist routine has always been one of my favorite also. Lately, I've been watching snippets of old shows on YouTube. There are quite a large selection, and like the web.....one will lead to another, and another, and another, before you realize an hour or more has flown past. I no longer watch T.V.,.....nothing but trash on....or things I really don't care to watch, and I really dislike the "Reality" shows. I've turned to Satellite Radio....mostly the Radio Classic shows, and hence....I've purchased a couple box sets. A while back I grabbed a 10 disk set of "Your's Truly, Johnny Dollar." (Bob Baily) Love the detective series and plan on purchasing more. (I wait until they are on sale.) About a week ago, I purchased a 10 disc set of "Our Miss Brooks" with Eve Arden. Most of the shows are around 15-30 minutes....however, they have the old time commercials also, which are a kick to listen to. I was just telling the wife this evening.....the radio shows were SO much more entertaining, and as I've known for a very long time.....I was born in the wrong era.....my life style fits in so much more with my father's generation. (smile) There are a lot of shows....but some of my favorites......Gun Smoke, Fibber Mcgee & Molly, The Shadow....Green Hornet....Lineup....Dragnet...and of course, Sherlock Holmes... and I heard a commercial yesterday that they will air "The Wizard of Oz" in it's entirety for the celebration of it's 75th anniversary. Here's a sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ubLre1Iiv8Wouldn't miss it for the world. Here's their plug from their web-site: Radio Classics "RadioClassics offers tens of thousands of radio programs, predominantly from the 1930's to the 1960's, a "Golden Age of Radio" when radio was a dominant force in entertainment and news for listeners of all ages. It was the most popular of the popular arts, an integral part of the everyday lives of millions of Americans. The finest actors, performers, writers, producers, directors, and technical craftsmen delivered outstanding programming that fueled the imagination of listeners with drama, comedy, westerns, detective stories, science fiction and adventure. RadioClassics' digitally remastered programs are made available for SiriusXM Satellite Radio, for broadcast, and as digital downloads directly to consumers. Our lineup includes many of the greatest performers, entertainers and characters in entertainment – including such iconic names as Jack Benny, The Shadow, Burns & Allen, Sam Spade, Jean Shepherd, Gang Busters, Red Skelton, Sherlock Holmes, Our Miss Brooks, The Mysterious Traveler, The Green Hornet, Hopalong Cassidy, and countless others, many offered under exclusive license. " So.....Give me radio any day. My opinion.....I completely understand why T.V. was such a big hit when first developed....however, now that I've listen to radio....MUCH more entertaining, and much more stimulating than T.V.!!!! Cheers,

Watching the video of the no frills airline in the original posting reminds me that in about two weeks time I will be flying from Perth to Melbourne the cheapest way possible, via Tiger Airways. Wish me luck!

Steve, we used to have many of those old shows that you (and Radio Classics) have mentioned on radio stations here in the 1950s and early 1960s. Along with Aussie-produced serials and series (such as "Blue Hills", one of the longest-running radio serials in the world), we were treated nightly to some great American shows. I recall dramas such as "Night Beat", "Dragnet", "Hopalong Cassidy", to name but a few of them. British programs were, in the main, played on the ABC (no relation to your ABC) and were mostly comedy shows, whilst American dramas were predominantly on commercial stations. Back in 2000 when I became interested in radio broadcasting I acquired a collection of OTR (Old Time Radio) CDs from the USA and they include hundreds of episodes of various programs, including not only American shows but also British comedy series, most of which I play on my programs. We don't have satellite radio as such. Bruce
