I've really been enjoying Golden Wings 3 lately but I've got a question about Silver Wings which I haven't installed yet.
Assuming I will have both Golden Wings 3 and Silver Wings installed on my hard drive, I was wondering if someone close to these projects who knows them well could give me a rough idea of a good cutoff point to switch from Golden Wings 3 to Silver Wings when I'm flying any given aircraft (date wise). In what date ranges are the two best suited for? I would like to be flying an aircraft in the correct environment for the year of its introduction.
Thanks!
Bill

Think of Golden Wings as being pre-WWII and Silver Wings as being Post-WWII. Also remember that Silver Wings is only a texture set, not as complex as Golden Wings. The textures are based on Golden Wings textures with adjusted urban textures to represent the growth of cities after the war. It works well with airport scenery designed for 50s - 60s like that found here: www.calclassic.com/

Have a look at www.ford-tri-motor.net/ for the most amazing Golden Wings scenery, planes & textures. It is almost worth a separate install! I've set up my sims like that, my Golden Wings & then my not so authentic Silver Wings, with lattter aged planes that interest me thrown into the mix.

Thanks, zswobbie12. I've started to get some stuff from the Tri-Motor project over the last 6 months...its great.
I've got another question about ATC during this period. As far as I know how, you are either using the "full on" ATC in FS9 or none at all. In Golden Wings I don't use ATC at all, say for instance in the 1930's. As I transition into the 1940's and 1950's with Silver Wings when is the best date to start the ATC chatter?
Also, when do you guys switch from Silver Wings to stock FS9. I was thinking around 1960 (I pretty much lose interest in aircraft introduced after 1970). I'll have three installations running on my hard drive (Golden Wings, Silver Wings, and default FS9) so I was just wondering how you guys keep things as authentic as possible and the transition dates you're using.
Thanks!
Bill
P.S. Does Silver Wings modify the AI traffic like Golden Wings does? Wouldn't want to see 747's at an airport in 1953. If it doesn't are there global AI traffic mods available for these early eras.

Hi Bill, I stand corrected, but I have a feeling that Silver Wings is a texture mod only. It has been so long since i installed it into my 'normal' version of FS9. Only because I prefered the textures to that of the default. I've not gone the 100% authentic route, as I enjoy just 'foolin' around as well as a bit of serious flight, such as trying a sextant & a bit of old time Radio Range work. By the way, as far as a bit of fun goes.... there is an amazing version of the Bounty, yup, a sailing ship, coming out shorty over at www.sim-outhouse.com that is really going to be special, built by one of Flight Sim's greats. That is really going to be fun, sailing by wind only. www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?75004-HMS-Bounty-Project/page9Yup, simming is NOT only about planes!
