I now have two collections (not mine!) that I've been asked to handle. That's 30+ LPs in total, apparently. And a shopping bag full of cassettes! Ain't technology great?Bruce

yair. I have the whole radio series of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on audio cassettes and my wife has a big box of music cassettes. It dawned on me the other day that we have no way of playing them! I also realise that we have a heap of VHS tapes and no player for them either! oh well. However, my niece works in the TV industry and she can convert anything to anything else.
On a similar note, when I started on computers in 1969 we had removable disc packs that were about a foot in diameter and had ten platters per pack. I worked out the other day that you could now fit four and a half thousand of them onto a memory stick the size of my thumb.

Nige, you can buy a new VHS/DVD player/recorder for around AUS$200. And if you want those cassettes digitised, just send them up to me. So long as you don't want them within any specific time-frame I'll be happy to help. There's no charge other than for the CDs or USB sticks.

Very interesting Bruce......but I must ask....where do you find the needle's or stylus?
I have a Sansui receiver and phonograph that have been in my closet for the better part of 20 years......and well as a decent size record collection. The wife and I had discussed recently what we're going to do with all that "Stuff." (smile)
I hate getting rid of it.....perhaps converting them over to CD or thumb-drive would be the answer.
Anyway Partner.....you've got me thinking......that can sometimes be dangerous and usually always expensive. (smile)
Cheers,

Thanks Bruce....that's good to know.
In today's age of high tech stuff....I wasn't sure how hard/easy it would be to find replacement parts.

Breaks my heart that I had to sell off 800+ LP's when we emigrated only to find that would have had room in the container after all. :-(

Breaks my heart that I had to sell off 800+ LP's when we emigrated only to find that would have had room in the container after all. :-( Well, mate....I did a similar thing (not 800, but closer to 300) when we moved from Canberra to Yamba last May. I sold the lot in one heap to a local second-hand record store and he's probably made a small fortune over the past 12 months. I could - and should - have left them with my daughter in Canberra and had them shipped up after we settled. Coulda - shoulda - woulda.
