For those of you who like a bit of "not-quite-a sim-but-more-like-an-arcade" fun, I downloaded from Steam, for the vast amount of US$7.00, a game called "Crash Dive". For those times when you like to pretend you're a U-Boat Kapitan but without the strict simulation of "Silent Hunter". store.steampowered.com/app/365260/

Good find Bruce.....for $7 bucks, you can't go wrong....(smile)
This will be a good game to put on my laptop for when I'm out on the road and stuck in a hotel somewhere.

Well, I thought that because we are going to Brisbane for two nights (in a fortnight) that I needed something on the laptop now that my main PC is the new desktop......so when I was updating TS2015 (on the PC) I saw this and popped it onto the laptop.

I gave in to temptation. It brings back memories of Wolfpack. I bought Windward on the Summer Sale and it is also a lot of fun. store.steampowered.com/app/326410/ Its 14.99 at the moment but I'm sure it will be on sale again. The trade element is a lot of fun and it isn't all combat like the trailers show. Also multi-player is optional

......reminds me of the Sid Meier's "Pirates" game. Cheers, Well....that's also available on Steam. store.steampowered.com/app/3920/"Overwhelmingly positive" reviews. The newbies are finding out that there was some great stuff made back then.....although someone has given it a 7.8 out of 10 because of "too much water"! What does he think makes up most of the planet?!

In the trailers it seems that "windward" is just the name and has little to do with the behaviour!

Tom, is the sailing/handling of the ships realistic?? In the trailers it seems that "windward" is just the name and has little to do with the behaviour! Its a game, not a sim by any stretch of the word. Wind does have an effect, but it is fairly simple. There is no raising sails etc. You basically point the ship with the mouse pointer and it moves in that general direction depending on wind direction and speed. Bigger heavier ships are slower and less maneuverable but carry more cargo and have more guns. I should also mention that cargo, guns, sails, crew and even captains are abstract units, sort of like a card game. Crash Dive is far more toward sim than Windward. Its a good time-waster for the 7.50 I invested. Back to Crash Dive. Great fun. Enough to manage, but not so much it becomes work like some of the sub-sims I've looked at. Good find! Thanks.

I TOTALLY agree with Tom.....Crash Dive was just the thing I needed to kill 10-20 minutes before dinner....before going to bed...before going to work......etc., etc.
I've always enjoyed the sub games but at times they were almost impossible to finish.
With that said.....My brother is the "sick-o" when it comes to sub games. (smile) He's been playing the same Silent Hunter III game for several years now. However, he plays in "real time"..... and at times his patrols will last for months. At the end of the night he will save the game until the next evening......which he begins again.....and will "pittle" around the house until he here's the crew shout out....."smoke on the horizon sir!!" Then the hunt begins. Don't know if he still does this.....but he use to come back to port and if the game said he was in Port for 8 days....well....he'd wait 8 days before beginning a new patrol.
Sick....sick....sick!!!! But got to hand it to him.....I couldn't do that!! (smile)
Cheers,
