Leon, We will hope to meet you someday on another airfield...
I'd like to offer the following (adapted from a moving tribute to another lost aviator):
Brother simmer, creative friend Go in the grace of God! Go where the ships come down to park When the day is done and night falls dark And landing gears etch their mark Upon eternal sod.
Brother simmer, creative friend For alone thy flight shall be, Such journey is not strange to thee Whose years have compassed land and sea So long without surcease.
Brother simmer, creative friend Go to eternal rest! For storms shall roll and winds shall ply Without erasure from on high Thy trace writ large on freedom's sky Until thy course held west.
"To fly west my friend, is a flight we all must make, for our final check." - anon

I just got back from a trip and saw the sad news. Those before me have said what I would say, many much better than I could.

Only two nights ago I was mentioning his contributions to a friend relatively new to FS. Like Tom I never considered the possiblity he may leave us, and it's strange but I feel a loss only knowing him my PC, and not even directly. My sympathy to his family and friends.

Leon's work lives on in his creations that he has given us. We will all be able to enjoy his beautiful province each time we fly one of his sceneries. His presence is in the beauty of the aircraft he painted. The world remains the sepulcher of famous men.

I know perhaps all has been said that needs to be said regarding the passing of Leon. I really could never add anything more of value. I know, that our mournng of his passing is, of course, more for our loss ... than it would ever be his. His journey in this particular life was complete. His inmortality ensured. Perhaps this is what we mean by the soul being imortal, it is his memory that remains in each of us ... at whatever level he touched us. THAT is and will always remain his legacy. A personal note to Leon .... My friend I know you are in a better place, and knowing you - the little I did, have no doubt that you are already in the process of getting a new bush Air service in full swing. Having now a more definative timeline (thanks to Cancer) I know that in a few short years I'll be joining you ... so do know that in the mean time I have been logging more hours in a wondeful super cub (not on the simulator) amphib ... fully intending to have plently of hours in type to be a proud memeber of your air service. I am curious and anxious to discover what type of paint scheme you've applied to your new stable of aircraft. The most incredible thing about his passing is that his memeory will NEVER be lost to those in the sim community .... because of his talents and more so, because of the gentle man that he was while here. Something, I think that we should aspire too ...

TO LEON LOUIS
Late Spring this year, Leon
The ground has flourished and the trees and flowers are showing off their best
I went for a walk in the old airfield today— signs of life come and gone everywhere, quick memorable visits to your playgrounds and old haunts, Leon
the decaying fabric and flying wires in a corner crumpled letters from friends in an old drawer, the cup of coffee still hot in our mind
Coming home late afternoon I read you went away, Leon I could neither speak nor read with sorrow I waited and waited to let it sink in
O Leon, we loved all the early and late announcements of you, For hours we have been in your company and now our world without you is not enough to console us
Sunset time the colors are turning gold like your voice and art, meticulous, sharp and ever-lasting
A lone bird cries in a tree and flies off towards your way to see how you’re faring
the old airfield comes to life whenever your name walks over it like a winged hope and soft head wind
The first stars come out shyly in the changing, darkening sky
each one holds a part of you to light us by
and we, speechless, follow your flight, wherever headed.
Nikos Tselepides Athens, Greece 29th April 2006 (in memory of Leon Louis)

<Sigh> I keep finding old screenshots with his "signature of art and fun" in his work...
