I recently downloaded the CDRA CANT Z.511 www.simviation.com/simviation/index.php?ID=88&page=1000 by Francesco Giuli. I knew it was FS2004, but decided to give it a shot anyway. After all, most airplanes need a new prop and a few gauges. I was hoping that I could redo the textures in a fictional bare metal scheme and make it look like a floater version of the Connie. After all, it is a nice looking airplane. Unfortunately, the test hop revealed that it needs all new gauges, all new textures and new contact points before a repaint would be possible. Before I relagate it to the scrap heap, does anyone want to take a stab at reworking it? I think it would be an awesome airplane to go along side the works of Jens Kristensen and other floater workhorses.

I had been working on the contacts but I could not get them right. When the prototype first appeared it was in natural metal finish. I would definitely like to see this bird in FSX with your textures. I will try again.

Railrunner, Here are some contact points that should work. I don't claim any great knowledge of contacts so there may be better numbers than I have come up with. These seem to work ok but there may be better ones. wake= fx_wakeju.fx water=fx_waterland_wal.fx In my test flights, a fully loaded Z.511 has a very long take off run. With a light load it's very responsive for it's size. The Z.511 is a nice airplane with good handling characteristics and a passenger cabin. Let me know how it works for you. Happy landings.

Thanks to the efforts of Hurricane, I've gotten mine to behave accordingly. I tried a few test panels on it to see if it will accept reflective textures. They come up invisible. I haven't worked that issue in a while, so I've forgotten some about painting and FSX and reflective textures. If I recall correctly, the model needs to be run through Modelshine, a program which I no longer own. Does anyone have it?

Thanks Roger. Unfortunately, it doesn't work in Vista as you pointed out.
Can anyone convert it for me?
Perhaps I will contact the author and see what he can do for me as well.

I just got an e-mail from F. Giuli and he's on board. He's not sure how to do the reflective textures. I'm trying to figure how to work that side as well.

For port overs like this I usually make up a panel that I think looks nice and is easy to read, but I suppose some Italian or metric gauges would more realistic. I will try some out when I have time. Any other ideas? Besides the Vega/DC-3 gauges I have; flap gauge from the C-74, two cowl flaps gauges from the B-50, vertical radar altimeter from the YS-11, trim gauge from An-26, GMT/local time analog clock from a 707, wind gauge from the Merlin. If you don't have those add-ons, others could be substituted or just left blank. I don't know if its proper to distribute non-default gauges. Does anyone know the protocol on this?
