Heinkel He-111Z 'Zwilling' by Mr. Ito,showed the innovations made under extreme desperate times........The Japanese developed a huge sub in WW-2 The SEN TOKU 1 400...It was unique for it carried war planes in its built in hanger! They were able to carry three Aichi M6A Seiran aircraft....With folded wings, hot start technology,.. As the war turned against the Japanese and their fleet no longer had free rein in the Pacific, the Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Combined Fleet, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, devised a daring plan to attack the cities of New York, Washington D.C., and other large American cities as well as to destroy the Panama Canal...Bombs as well as Germs were considered in the attacks!.At the conclusion of the war, these subs were ready to attack the Panama Canal,Kamaizi style, but were called off,as Japan surrendered! This was the first type of a sub which could launch air attacks..Of course that technology developed into missile subs....Nice Plane!!..Vin

Yes, I would like to see an updated M6A1 for FS. The I-400/M6A1 combination was certainly the most sophisticated system for launching manned offensive aircraft. The Japanese had at least two prior aircraft types designed for submarine launched reconnaissance but capable the same mission. The Yokosuka E9W1 began operations in 1938 and could be launched by the smaller I-5 submarines. Yokosuka then followed up with the E14Y1 monoplane, one of which actually succeeded in bombing the U.S. mainland and returning to it's submarine in September of 1942.
I am surprised that FS modelers have not produced more Japanese aircraft from this era.

I had a Japanese link to a page full of Japanese "secret" fs models for us gaijins westerners (there was a huge collection for CFS\Fs2002\FS2004 of fighters. scouts and bombers). The link is gone...auch! not my day. An I-400 in all splendour! thanks to Irootoko.

Thanx hurrican91,and Damien!....Idid not think it was that big,the plane that is..it had folding wings, detachable floats, and most unique ,a oil warming system..to make for immediate take offs....No engine Warm Ups!! Sub surfaced ,hanger doors open, wings extended, floats attached ,take off ,and Sub Submerged!...recovery was with crane.....Its noted the Russians were extremely interested in this sub...it had a double hull, and some of them, almost succsfully attacked the Panama Cannel..right at wars end...however Tokyo called the raid off...for all was lost for Japan.....the Ancestor of modern air attack subs....now to include civil populations...thanx,,the more I learn of this story ,the more fascination it becomes...it seems our enemies were resourcefully, innovative, and Dangerous! Intent of destroying America!.....however,air power, the ATOMIC BOMB proved way more decisive, and shortened that Dam War and saved American lives!!!!. Great historical stuff!! thanx All!!..Vin!!
