I purchased FSX when it came out. It's been installed since Christmas of 2005 (?). I have three "updates" (I think):
SETUP.EXE FSX_SP1_ENU.EXE FSX_SP2_ENU.MSI
I see download descriptions which include "for sp2 and acceleration.) I remember, early on, picking up and looking at the Acceleration Box, but I didn't purchase it.
Which of the above must I have to begin using FSX for real??? What other products MUST I have (and I'm considering all the "Must Haves" at FlightSim.com)
Many thanx - yes, just your gut and personal preferences are welcome.
L&Ks,
Stew

Hi Stew. Get SP1 for certain. It fixed many performance issues with FSX. If you want to fly a plane like A2A's Accusim, you will need the Acceleration pack. Acceleration includes SP1 and SP2, and more. For basic flight SP1 will work.

Stew, the reason many of us became frustrated with FSX was that SP1 dealt with a lot of issues in FSX (performance and terrain related) and when they issued SP2, the idiot in charge used the original RTM files that had all of the issues in them - terrain related at least - and promptly put them back in again.
As a scenery designer I gave up after this because although with SP1 I could put in seasonal textures on trees and stuff, an 'oversight' in SP2 meant that this was not possible.
Can you see why they fired Aces?
SP2/Acceleration allowed several things like bump mapping which mad aircraft look very nice from the outside but added little if anything to the pleasure of flying them. On the other hand you had to give up other features like the one I've dfescribed which I thought were more desirable.
I'm getting out of touch now because I don't do a great deal of flightsim now on account of things like the above - Aces' cockups rather killed it for me - so it would be better if someone who's still more heavily involved gave you the information you need.
