I need a new motherboard, processor, video card and of course memory. I have a powerful PSU already and a large like new Hard Disk. So...where should I start looking at to build my next gamer pc?
I've heard Intel are better than AMD today (generally speaking). I need some good ideas (brands and your experiences with it). And of course, how well you're doing with the software (be it Fs9\FSX or GTA or any other demanding game). I am not much in the overclocking side, but I can learn.
I will buy Windows 7 too, so I can use all the memory (the more the better? will 8 gb be enough') .
Share your thoughts and give advice about this topics, before I change my mind...and spend the money in chocolates!

Dear Colleague,
You will need 64-bit operational system to use more than 3 GB memory. So, only Win7-64 bit would be acceptable.

OK, good to know. Will most games take advantage or more than 4 gb? I rememmber the XP 64 bits version was not suitable for gaming.

Hi Damian, yes Belov is correct that Windows 7 32bit will only use upto 3Gb, and I use this version because of backward compatability on some older programs that won't run on a 64bit system.
In regards to hardware I would go for a Nvidia 400 series card as I (and others) have found that ATi do not perform as well, Proccessor is a difficult one as the new i7's are very fast and can go upto 4Ghz ! running on air.... but are very expensive. I have heard good things about Gigabyte motherboards so thats what I would go for.
Here are my system specs running Fs9 between 60-120 fps with all sliers max. FSX Sp2 between 30-60 fps with medium detail (more autogen than Fs9)
Asus P5NT Deluxe Motherboard Intel Q6600 (2.4Ghz) overclocked to 3.2Ghz 4Gb of Crucial Ballistix ram Nvidia 470GTX 1.28Gb Memory 850w Power Supply
By far not the quickest system out there but it does me fine, hope this helps.

I think I have a certain idea of what I need now (after some time reading about this and that on the net). OK, will go to my dealer tomorrow and see if I can get a little discount on a pc built around I7 and and Intel graphic card. WHat about this for cooling the case? will I need the "hyper cooler"! ;D www.coolbuzz.org/entry/the-hyper-cooler-pc-case/

Hi Windrunner. From experience and reading on the net, start with the I7 9xx. get a good cooler, these run on the warm side. I was advised to get at least 6GB of memory, some say more would be better. For the vid card, nvidia GTX 470 or better. Win 7-64. Keep the operating system seperate from other programs. My system is I7 960, X58 mobo, 6GB RAM, GTX 470, 850W PS, Win 7-64, 1TB harddrive split into three sections. Built for me by a person to run FS9/FSX. Runs FSX very well.

Intel= I7 chips. AMD= any of there Quads3.0ghz or higher. I run AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 Core and kill FSX and any Intel Chip. Problem is FSX and any of the Beta testers are all at near 75% Intel users so the conclusion is not enough info to draw on AMD and Intel is the MS monopoly. I see and here more issues and complaining out of Intel users then AMD. Its a old saying Intel is more money and therefor must be better. In FS it's simple not enough testing and data on AMD to draw any conclusions since Intel was used in testing over the 50% barrier and one can not draw and conclusions or comparisons in testing, for proper testing there must be a 50/50 testing of CPU's. My #2 FSX computer is the Quad AMD and it also kills FSX and out does Intel in CPU durability and lifespan.

Good, it seems so many people is already into 64 bits with no major problems despite my first thoughts (Craig it may be a good idea to try it after all, it's not that expensive and I am sure your gmax will work better with more ram); I will go 64 bits. I'll have a complete proposal by tomorrow and see what is inside, I'll need some of your advice by then, guys, thanks for the feedback. I have three AMD machines (2 old desktops and one laptop) already, and this will be my first Intel "inside".
PS: I take note of your remarks, specially the cooling factor.

Finally I have something to consider very seriously. This could be a good balance between speed and price (or at least that is what the geek guy siays).
Asus P7H55D-M Pro (i7 PCie) Intel Core i7 670 2.93ghz Corsair (x8GB) DDR3-1600 mhz Cooler master Elite ATX730 watt Windows 7 home 64 bits Nvidia GTX460 1GB Gddr5 256 bit
I had no time to do an exhaustive research on the memory, but I think those are a good start.

Of course I will; I have to wait for about two weeks yet. At least that is what the guy said (and as usual, you can add a surplus of a few days to that).
We only live once, isn't it? ;D

Looks like a pretty good system Windrunner. What I know now about computers and FSX, I would have gone bigger with my system.

The monster has arrived....but it is still packed. I hope to have some time in the closest future to give it a test soon!
