Thanks Vin, I did this all in Photoshop. It actually came out better than I thought it would. I wanted the drawing to be as close to photo realism as it could be and still look like a drawing. I used an image from FS2004 as a reference. Plotted some key proportional markers and off I went. Actually, drawing in split screen view is a bit tough. The roughest part of the drawing was all those board lines, very time consuming. I wanted to do it originally as a contour line drawing.
But this challenge was not about me. It is about all who visit TOH and want to show off their skills as artists. Art has become a big part of my life very recently, but has always been with me. I just wanted to encourage those who think they have lost what they had, or know what they have to present their works here for the family to see.
You guys who have submitted your works I have to say, thank you for participating, BRAVO!! Great stuff. All art is worth seeing, gee in school they teach us about not only the great masters of the renaissance period, but also about the cave dwellers of the paleolithic period. In some way they all made their mark on art, and in some way the artist here make their mark for us.
I am going to leave these challenges open, and pin it to the forum so it will be easy to find.
Thanks again guys, and keep 'em comin!!!

It was only yesterday I noticed this thread and decided to get into the field; so, while I was watching a film after dinner, I took paper and pencil and did this fast sketch. I will put some colors on it later with Photoshop and clean the whole a bit more. I have not decided what to do yet, but I think at the end it will be more like a manga style. BTW, great idea! ------------------------------------- Edit: after some time spent with Photoshop, this is the colorized rendition of the original sketch; a bit heavy on primary colors but that is all about mangas I think. I hope this one is in touch with the spirit of the thread!

I like the way this came out Damian, for a quick sketch. The concept is unique, and lots of character here. Now after looking at the sketch it becomes a watercolor, so to speak. The antiquing adds to the character of the painting. A very nice job indeed.

The antiquing adds to the character of the painting. A very nice job indeed. I just wanted to tell a story or a situation and not just the plane. I am not good at drawing mechanics or buildings, so I just did something where I am more assured. Animals and plants and humans, that is what I draw more willingly, generally speaking so to say. Applying colors is not something that I like either, but I learned some tricks; that is why your design in grayscales is very good in my eyes, and I enjoy it a lot more than mine.

Damian, your painting tells a story much more than mine.
I am the opposite, I can create mechanical things through my artwork better than organic. The gray scale was chosen for its speed alone as I was taking way too long to produce my Cub on the Farm painting.
I have to agree with you, coloring is a bit of a chore to make things seem as they should be in relationship to the lights. There are some good exercizes in regards to color and light at ConceptArt.org. I recently have been going back to these to hone my skills a bit.
I like the concept of the young boy flagging in the aircraft as his friendly dog trys to help.

It doesn't surprise at all; actually people had different "brain architectures" that leads them to be more easy on certains branchs of the knowledge rather than others and perceive the world (and "read" it) with different eyes. For example, those of us who are good on "Humanistic" careers are not competent in Logics or Mathematics. Some of my engineer and architects friends can draw an screw or a chair in seconds with a 100% degree of accuracy, while I am not able to start. But...unlike us "philosophers" you "scientists" have some trouble with the rounded shapes of nature and "what is hidden inside" I think...lol! just joking, of course.
I will try another draw soon, once I'll end my other photoshop tasks. It is a nice conversation, by the way.
