It was a voluntary decision. My hard drive getting maxed out..I made the choice,FS9,or FSX...Hands down FSX , it had to go...from the beginning I never really got out of FSX what was promised... Could never drink the KOOL AID hype Simply ,I could not fly in it.For me it became a Picture source,to Post, maxed out , ,beautiful Picture...Clicking Pictures is not flying!..Get better Pictures off an Aviation calender!....That's not what brought me here. FLYING is the thing, and in planes, and places that reflect my experiences...and beckon to distant new horizons! The Walter Mitty stuff OK ,but Flying,in reasonable scenery, that's it!!...Hard to discount all the beautiful gifts given ..planes ,scenery, by great artistic people .With FS9.and with reasonable effort, and great help here,I have an excellent Flight Sim FS9, preserving all that was given!.I FLY IN IT FS9,!.Not Tinker with it!! .. Anyway its a tribute to the LYONS..They made FS9 a vehicle for a wondrous World of Familiar things...of which with child like enthusiasm I Thoroughly enjoy....so its done, and no regrets...The Emperors New clothes syndrome was unsupportable for me..FSX was never finished!...Others will ,and correctly so,pursue FSX...but me,I Like dealing with An Old Reliable firm........ Where too this Evening??? "GOLDEN HAWAII?." "YELLOWKNIFE?.".What the Hey!.. All sounds OK.to Me!!!......................Cheers ...Vin!!

I hear ya Vin. If it wasnt for A2A's Accusim, I would be flying entirely in GW3. I like the realism.

Yup same here for me too!...Only reason I have not removed it is because we have to build planes for it and I need the screen shots! ;D I fly for pleasure entirely in FS9 which has never disapointed me in anyway ...and is rock solid. Long live FS9 I will wait and see if Flight gets it right again ;D

Well Vin......I actually went the other way, but I do hear ya loud and clear.
It was hard for me to lose me FS9 as I had acquired a tremendous amount of custom scenery etc., and I had everything running SOooooooo smooth, however, it was hard trying to keep company with two loves. (FS9 & FSX)
When the Orbx scenery came along with A2A Accusim and other's started improving their "talents" I had the choice to tag along with the idea of always dumping them and heading back to familiar ground.
A good friend of mine (Mark Smith aka "Bremerton National FS9 Scenery) is a wiz when it comes to computers. The guy knows more then half the computer engineers I believe.....he started/is starting his custom computers at GREAT prices etc. No bells and whistles....no "crap" you don't need....just a Big Block Hemi type computer that runs the heck out of FSX!!!
He's put together my last two boxes and I've been thrilled ever since. I treat my FSX computer like a very fancy high performance machine.....no e-mails....no "extra" stuff....just a take out to scare the crap out of you machine and she's a beauty and runs FSX as it was made to be run.
Will I ever go back to FS9? Probably not.....BUT.....it is, was, and always will be a "Classic" that will live forever and be near and dear to any and all that loved Flightsimming!!
Cheers,

Hi sarge, you make a very good reason to continue with FSX,I sure your system is par excellence, so to is Rogers....his Pic Postings are suburb,as I'm sure yours are also. In both instances ,they reflect your demands for excel lance, and the ability to utilize the new applications of Scenery, and Planes for FSX!....I look at them with great pleasure, and satisfaction that our Humble Flight Sim game has reached this level of development. My avatar reminds me of that! Gone are the days ,of buying a product, and expecting what was promised out of the box...ready to go!...but we all know it was not so.Both with FS9 and to a much more greater degree FSX...Those who are not equipped to use FSX,Don't....and for many a great disappointment./I'm sure many kids put this FSX into a normal computer and were disappointed...I remember well when FSX was introduced, most not too happy then!..however I tried, spent lots of money, the ole frame rate race, finally I reached some satisfaction, but not yet on a par with FS9...To much Hanger Time, and not Flying time1 As I said ,I'm most pleased with my currant set up.as you are with yours .,..as mine gives me all I ask for..un complaining, reliable, great roots, and for reasons I gave ,most forfilling....".I Fly The thing!" Reminds me of my son,Loves Mustangs cars...and to fulfill his personal criteria as what a car is,had the thing converted to all the Goodies RAUCH has to offer.....He is very happy..It looks like a Mustang, called a mustang,BUT its not a Mustang.......So Enjoy your System,it speaks well of you and others, and the future of this great hobby....the American Quality's Of TINKERING,CHANGING,INNOVATING products offered us, are alive and well......HAPPY LANDINGS SARGE!!

I completely understand Vin. FS9 is a stable platform with all the addons in the world. I could probably be very happy if that was all I had. But, being part of the FSX Beta team, I had to commit myself to using the product and I must confess I am a satisfied customer. Sure there are problems with FSX (but that is another topic) but I love it. Orbx scenery for the Pacific Northwest and some of the bush planes modeled specifically for FSX have made me happy enough to put up with the problems in FSX.
Nevertheless I understand why someone would prefer FS9 (I do not say "go back" to FS9) and even as Kofi mentions FS2002 which in some ways is actually better than FS9. I still have FS9 and FSGW3 on my older desktop and they get occasional use. I'm not ready to abandon them.

Absolutely Tom,of course you and others make great scene,I too like FSX,and was enjoying it to a degree, but i had a to make a choice....It was a decision of biblical proportions comparable to the one made by King Solomon. Metaphorically....how do I keep one alive,or wind up with two dead things........yes I thought of a dedicated CP only for FSX...and who knows ..if I'm around for the Next generation of Simming?...I probably will......
More importantly TOM are issues which require hope and faith.,like FSX to a degree....at Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania its GROUNDHOG DAY....lets hope that Critter tells us winter is waining, but today nation wide weather says its not.BUT Only the hog Knows!.....great Flight Siming weather in the hanger...stay warm Tom....Thanx Vin!!

As I said ,I'm most pleased with my currant set up.as you are with yours .,..as mine gives me all I ask for..un complaining, reliable, great roots, and for reasons I gave ,most forfilling....".I Fly The thing!" I really hear you there Vin!!! In the days of FS98.....I was totally comfortable with that setup. In fact....I do believe that is when/where I first stumbled upon Tom, Bill Lyons and "The Old Hanger," ........seems like such a long time ago. (smile) When the next version of FS came out.....as always, I was first in line......first disappointed. Still have the darn program I think....probably collecting dust in my Flightsim closet. Bottom line, I don't think I finally changed versions until FS2002 finally arrived on the scene. Years ago....seems I always "needed/wanted" the newest and greatest computer stuff......."keeping up with the virtual Jone's so-to-speak" ......Now I'm VERY comfortable of needing only what satisfies me.....and I have very simple needs anymore. (smile) Cheers, BTW......I do "love" my FSX.......as there is/was some very interesting changes in FSX. However, I still believe that while FSX and FS9 are flightsims..... it really is like Apples and Oranges......both have a VERY appealing quality about them. I do intend to put FS9 on my laptop one of these days to see how she'll run. One of the things I miss while traveling is my flightsim.....but then again.....I'd never get any work done. (smile) Take care my friend!!

When the next version of FS came out.....as always, I was first in line......first disappointed. Now that you brought this up Steve, I don't think I have ever been that disappointed with any of the latest and greatest sim versions. I guess I never was that picky about the small stuff. But when I started to create content for the sims, I then realized some of the drawbacks from one sim to the other. I still fly FSX and enjoy it a lot, but I removed it from my Vista drive to save space, and believe me, it helped. I have it on my XP64 drive and run it from there through Vista. Now if I had the time, and interest to create scenery again I would probably see the faults with FSX, but why ruin a good thing. Oh, I do some small personal stuff, but nothing of major importance.

The reason I made the choice I did ,was really the utility of our home computer. That Simple. It could not,can not handle the huge amount of data we have installed in to it.This is no wimpy CP,but all things have limitations.A Comprise of sorts. In this comprise FS9,retained its integrity, even with the multitude of additions....but FS9,+FSX+ all the rest...records,pictures ,recipes, blogs, and of course a Wife!,Ya know what a WIFE is? ,It Rhymes with FIFE!,a small shrilly instrument! .Who is .very computer literate, and has sharp elbows! .It was just to much...hence my decision. For me ,and I see for others,FSX requires special attention to realize the bottom less "THINGS" in it. When viewed thu a designers eye ,it takes on different meanings,This thru a CP ONLY for FSX!......A game box of sorts???...For many seeking perfection, and the full realization, this is the only way to go.....we have come a long way in our sim world, one cannot even guess the future of it.It can be wonderful,or it can be awful...in any case dedicated simmers will make the best of it...again thanx guys,Great Hanger Talk,However its FLYING that's important..SOOO!.Lets all GO FLYING,In a Chair ,off a desk,At Home , in a Walter Mitty Mode,Frig close by,....Unbelievable!!...WHATS NEXT??
