I may have to look into this Skyrim, the last RPG I have experience of was Eye of the Beholder on an Amiga a million years ago. My son has it on some console or other, but I cannot get along with game controllers. Is the PC one version as good as or easier to control than the console? Is it mouse driven I suppose I mean.

.... Bruce, Which game allows you to drive a D-type? I have Grand Prix Legends and the Power and Glory mod for GTR2, but I would REALLY like a D-type! Forza 4, for X-Box 360, Nige. It is absolutely stunning........graphics that you would be hard pressed to tell from real life. They are that good. Sounds are awesome......fabulous! If, like me, you prefer the classic cars, as well as a D-Type (there is also an E-Type), from the same era you have an Aston Martin DBR1, Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, and a Ferrari Testarossa. A little later there is the Ford GT40, Ferrari 330 P4, Shelby Cobra Daytona coupe. The list goes on to include approx 500 car models. Real-life circuits include Silverstone - several configurations including the full F1 circuit; Nurburgring Nordschleife and also current GP circuit; Le Mans pre-chicanes and current configuration; Elkhart Lake (Road America); Laguna Seca; Suzuka; Motegi; Mugello; Indianapolis, both speedway and aborted F1 circuit; and others I can't remember. Bruce Buce, Pity about that. I have no plans to buy an Xbox and don't feel like buying one just to play one game. I guess I will have to wait until some kind person makes a D-Type for GTR2, or else learn how to make one myself. GTR2 has E-Types so maybe I could convert the shape to a D-Type. The physics are probably similar. Nige. P.S. On the other hand, Skyrim looks good!

Nigel, I agree....I couldn't justifying buying the X-Box for one game either. Fortunately my son dumped it in my lap whilst he spends 2 years overseas. Bruce

Thought I'd add one more note. After posting the above message last evening, I thought I'd pop in for an hour or so before I head out on vacation this morning. Well.......four hours later, I HAD to get to bed...(smile).....but once again, the game took a turn I hadn't expected at all. (Can't say too much.....don't want to ruin the experience for anyone playing the game.) This thing is like watching a really great mystery movie, and just when you think you're figuring out where it's taking you......bang......something knew pops up and your off into another entirely knew (but good) direction. I'm simply amazed!!!!!!!!! Cheers, Steve, I have to agree with you, the mystery is around every corner. Sometimes frustrating, and sometimes very exilirating. I have made 5 attempts at new starts and still don't know where I am going. Then my son comes to me and tells me I am approaching the game as I would with the MMOs. In this game, the level and XP(experience points) are based on what you do, and questing. In the other games, questing is a major contributor to your XP and level. As far as changing strategies, I am now approaching this game with curiosity. Taking small areas and seeing what I can find and gather equipment to acquire things I need to improve my toon. My strategy from before this was based on quests, and this lead to not being strong enough to handle some of the major quests, frost giants, ice wraiths and the like. A totally awesome game in my mind, and very playable on the PC. I recently bought an Xbox 360 controller for my PC to get a bit better control on movement. I look forward to your reply.

Hi John......Just returned today from a week's vacation and couldn't wait to jump back into SkyRim for a little exploring. Like usual......I started out with a goal in mind.....and it took a twist somewhere along the way. (smile) I kind of given up on focusing on quests.....and have begun to focus more on building my character. Have NO IDEA where I'm going, but happily.....I don't care......I'm still amazed at the beauty and fun in this game. I still have another week of vacation....but will be spending it at home.......HOPEFULLY getting a few things done around the house.....(smile).....that might be somewhat of a challenge as I can't seem to leave this game alone. Cheers, Tonight's screenshot:

These are some of the screenies I took from today's adventures. My Second Dragon Kill by the Western Watch tower near Whiterun. The soldiers that are near are amazed that you can shout the dragon dead, and you can absorb its magic. Walking the rim on our way to Angervunde, this was just after sunrise. Silendra and Lydia in the Tombs of Angervunde. Silendra was giving Lydia some booty to carry as one can not take all the booty in these locations. Somtimes several trips are needed. Lots of shrooms in this place for potion making. Stay tuned for more screenies. Same time, same station.

Can you believe it......today was the first day I've been home and haven't even pulled up the game!!!! (smile)
Trust me though......I've been itchin to get back in there..... just too many things I've been putting off that needed completing!
I haven't exactly decided what I want to do next...... explore somemore......start another Quest.......or just go kick dragon butt. (smile) I've now aquired the Dragonrend shout that can knock them down from the skies.......they're still pretty nasty......especially the blood dragons. (smile)
Cheers,

Steve, my second dragon was a Blood Dragon. What a challenge it was as I was near level 7 or above by a bit. It seems the West Watchtower has something to do with triggering a fight with a dragon after some time has gone by. My third was like a day later. I will have some more shots of Dragons, Giants, and Mammoth Tuskers here soon. I finally made it to 10 last night. I also have a house in Whiterun, Breezewood, as I needed it for the chest to store my goods, I am quite the raider. Clear the tomb or hideout then go back and raid the booty from them.
After playing Skyrim on Xbox for almost two weeks off and on, my oldest son trashed his toon and started a new one as he was watching how I was playing, taking no sides, and playing the mercenary, quite fun.
I also found a Mod for the Map that shows roads, which is quite a bit of help when you come to the crossroads with five points to them. The thing I like about it is the roads aren't super clear and one gets the general idea of what direction to go and whether one needs to go clean around a mountain before heading the direction they need to go. Previously, one had to go in several different directions to figure out which road to take and whether the terrain was suited for their travel. Granted, taking short cuts can become and adventure in itself.
I'll post some images after I get home from work tonight.

As promised, more illustrated adventures in Skyrim Farkas and Silendra at Dustman's Cairn after a hard battle with the undead looking for a fragment of the sword Wuuthrad. After spending some time fighting Bandits in their hideout, Lydia and Silendra walk through the Mammoth fields following the gentle giant beast. I forget the name given to the beast in the game, so I will call it a Wooly Mammoth. This shot is from before the fight with the Bandits, slightly darker as it was early morning. The Wooly Mammoth passes in front of Lydia and Silendra as they move towards the Bandit camp. Lydia and Silendra walking on the road to Winterhold near Whiterun enjoying the scenery. The bridge in the background is actually a river crossing for bandits as they have taken over one of the many towers that line to long road. After taking a wrong turn the gals move into a new adventure, and find a few friends along the way, a Giant and a Mammoth. Our adventurers moving north find the little village of Dawnstar. Its cold there, but warm inside. Another shot as the ladies move onto the south shore of the ocean. Notice the Nodic Longship docked in the bay, and the shifty character in the mid-ground. These were all taken as screenshots in-game as you can see part of the UI in the pics. The resolution isn't that great, because I turned it down a bit as it makes fighting a bit easier to accomplish. Again, this game is totaly awesome.

Great Shots John......Love them!!!! You've already accomplished something I haven't..........having two assistants instead of just Lydia. I know it can be done....in fact, a friend of a friend has four I'm told.....their own personal "fire team." (smile)
Due to a LONGGGGG story......I had to start over again, however, it's like a completely different game.....I'm really surprised.
What even surprised me more........the stats of my previous game. (smile) I'll put it this way........ If you played 2 hours a day.......5 days a week....... I had enough time spent it would take you 2 and a half MONTHS to catch me. (smile) Even more amazing........ I still hadn't seen all of Skyrim and had only achieved 52% of the achievements....................AMAZING Game!!!!! (smile)
Anyway......I am playing much, MUCH smarter this second time around.
Have you placed any "mods" in the game? I haven't done many...."better sky"......"better water" etc. However,............ I highly.......HIGHLY recommend "Dovahkiin Hideout."
It places a HUGH basement under all your properties that has plenty of storage areas......a "war room" so-to-speak.....very....VERY nice. The mod is free......but if you donote a small fee (you decide.....I think the recommendation is $1 ....... He places your name in "the book" on the table, kind of like a Guest Book. Also.....if you send him a "text file" with "Your Story", he'll add that to a book and place on the bookshelf for others to read. (smile) I'll have to work on that one.
Got to run......it's taking a LONG time to get my computer back the way I want it....probably because I can't keep from taking a break now and then to play Skyrim or something. (smile)
Cheers,

SgtMaj - So you peaked my curiosity with this thread..now I too am "hooked" on this game. I like wandering alone, and exploring. There is a great deal of depth built into Skyrim..I started playing intuitively, as there doesn't seem to be much in the way of "rules and regs".. that I could find.
There are amazing mods created, from those folks who can do that sort of thing.
Regards, Royce

You're correct.....I don't believe there are ANY set rules to play this game.....maybe all RP games are like that....I don't have much experience there. I too enjoy wandering around exploring....the beauty is simply amazing!!!! I spoke with the friend who got me hooked on this game, and he's enjoying a completely different game than me. In fact......I've found places he didn't know about and vice versa. Starting over a second time.....a few of the scenarios I've come across too are different so I'm convinced the game WILL change dependent on your responses and how you play, which totally fascinates me. Oh......BTW......I'm also convinced the game will play differently dependent on your character creation. At least it appears that way based on my conversation with my friend. He started his first game as a Nord.....he's now playing as a Wood Elf. Obviously you have different "natural" abilities with the different characters.....but appears some of the scenario's too play out differently. Of course, these are only my opinions.....but I'm a very pleased customer!!!! (smile) Cheers,

I play a Wood Elf and their resistance to poison arrows and such is totally powerful. If I know there are poison arrows in a crypt I will tell Lydia to stay behind while I trigger them, but that doesn't always work. Some arrows are triggered ever time you step on the pad. The thing to do is move around the pads, kind of like Indiana Jones might.
Today I am going to attempt the Frost Troll at High Hrothgar to talk with the Greybeards to develop my shouts. I am level 10.
Last night I watched my oldest son fight a powerful Dragon, and it took him the better part of 15 minutes to kill it..........amazing.
As my pictures show, it is not that uncommon to get lost and move into another part of Skyrim to start another short adventure.
Glad to see you have a good hold on recovering your computer, Steve.
Royce, you are gonna love this game even more as you continue your adventures.........Good Luck.
Oh, I wanted to mention, my only sidekick is Lydia, but she is quite the fighter. Saturday, she was knocked down by a Mage, not dead, just injured pretty badly, and I had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to restore her health. To do so, you need Healing Hands which one can get from Farengar at the Dragonsreach off to the left as you enter the main hall. I felt so helpless not being able to heal Lydia. Then I remembered I had the spell in my inventory of Magic.

Please don't anyone take offense, but to someone who has never played any of these role-playing games, some of these postings make for hilarious reading! Almost as funny as watching an episode of The Big Bang Theory.
