I had the privilege and honor of meeting the survivors of the Doolittle Raid last year in Dayton, at the reunion. At the time, they indicated it would be the last time they gathered, as several of the gentlemen are no longer "as young as they once were". But, now I see that they're gathering this year after all! www.doolittle-raiders.org/--------------------------- I also had the terrific experience of taking a flight aboard one of the B-25 Mitchell bombers that gathered last year as well -- and it wasn't cheap! ...but wow! Sitting in the nose and thinking about what those gentlemen did....well, it was humbling and thrilling in equal measure. I'll see if I can dig up my photos and share'm. KB

Thanx Bookmam,my recollection was when I was 10 or 11 yrs old..my Dad at that time took me with him to see a B-25...I Believe it was in NYC..in some exhibit hall..I always thought it was the Empire State Building lobby? .It was The Fuselage alone I think. BUT so long ago. I do remember the exultation ,of the event...All the AIR RAID WARDENS were ecstatic....Joy in the Streets...That Really was needed then...It showed the way ,that soon after Pearl Harbor....AMERICA WAS BACK! Later, I was 13yrs old,a B-25 Empire State Building crash was a 1945 aircraft accident in which a B-25 Mitchell piloted in thick fog crashed into the Empire State Building. While the structural integrity of the building was not compromised, fourteen people died (three crewmen and eleven in the building crash Contents..This time I took the 3RD Ave Ell train...and went to see this sad event...Got close ,but the Cops had the place cordoned off...I do remember the Smell however...Lasting Thoughts!! sorry your site did not work for me...But I can find it..Thank You Sir!!..Vin

and thinking about what those gentlemen did....well, it was humbling and thrilling in equal measure. Will love to see the pictures.......that would indeed be something to attend such a function. A few years ago I accompanied my Father to D.C. on a program called "Honor Flight" sponsored by the American Legion and VFW. Silly me......I thought it was called Honor Flight for the WWII veterans going........little did I know I would discover the true honor was for me to spend 3 days with these gentlemen. When it hit me that I was visiting with men that had been at Normandy on D-Day......Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Okinawa, the Liberation of France....Invasion into Italy etc., etc., etc. It was truly an honor to listen to their stories......shake hands....and share time with them. It still brings a lump to the old throat just thinking about it. (smile) Those 3 days.......you would have thought each and everyone of them were 18 year old boys again!!! The laughter and stories were indeed amazing!!!!!!!! Cheers,
