Well, I vastly preferred the Tactical Air Command and the United States Air Forces, Europe.
The Strategic Air Command (SAC) was a cornerstone in avoiding WWIII and averting a nuclear holocaust, but living and working in SAC wasn't for everyone - I hated it (Griffiss AFB, NY, 1971-1973; Minot AFB, ND, 1983-1988) as much as many of my contemporaries loved it.
SAC's Motto: Peace is our Profession
SAC's Slogan: PRIDE - Professional Results In Daily Efforts.
There were other sayings:
SAC is the only entity that eats their young every day for lunch.
SAC sucks.
A blow for SAC is a suck for Peace
Join the Air Force and see the world; join SAC and be buried under it.
No, it was incestuous, ate it's young, and didn't really have a mission unless we were ready to blow the world up - there were no heros in SAC (like in TAC and USAFE) - just a bunch of Colonels climbing bodies trying to become generals.
Yes, yes. This all merely one man's opinion!!
