Look, don't speak too loudly and if at the moment you happen to be in charge of a small rodent, such as a hamster or a gerbil, don't you dare late it break wind within 5 kilometres of my computer. Reason is that I've just spent an enjoyable, and stable computer-and-windows-wise, couple of hours flying in the Dordogne in FSX.
Yep, I'm as surprised as anyone after all the problems I've had with my computer and I'd more or less given up, but I couldn't resist tinkering every now and again when I could stand the level of frustration that always eventually resulted, just in the vain hope that something, just something, might happen and I'd succeed in getting FSX running in Windows 7.
Well dang me, I found quite by chance that if I set the anti-alias setting of my new GTX560 card down to the apparently abysmally low level of 4, in fact not only do I still get excellent on-screen anti-aliasing but I also get a stable system! Now I don't expect this to be a victory - I accept that there's no such thing as far as me, Windows 7 and FSX are concerned, but it worked with a horribly bare default FSX set up in Windows 7 and also with my somewhat tweaked FSX in XP, although having said that, it's been so long that I've been able to get FSX running without crashing even in XP, that that copy hasn't been touched for 2 or more years so needs a lot of work to get it to anywhere near up to date. My next target, fool that I am, will be to copy my XP FSX into Windows 7 and see if it still runs in a stable kind of way, with all the additional aircraft and sceneries that I've got installed in it. Well, at least I can hope....
But that's for tomorrow. Tonight I will be giving what I've got another go and if all goes well, I'll be able to retire to bed later on with a smile on my face. Have to make the most of it while I can, before it falls over again. It always does.....
