Several years ago, my wife and I went to the local Pomona Fair which is held each year. While on the fairgrounds, I had discovered a section with old trains. Most were in fair to poor condition (my estimate).....but it was nice too be able to crawl around on them and sit inside the cab or passenger car. Really a nice day of it. Last year, the Union Pacific started getting the "Big Boy" 4014 ready for a restoration project. Somewhere around here, I think I have pictures of my wife and I standing inside the cab of this big beast!!! I hope I'll be able to actually see it run someday..........wouldn't that be grand!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsZGWn_bPPEHere's another video.....much longer, but shows the movement from the fairgrounds etc. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyDXCkcN7bgCheers,

That would be AWESOME!! Thanks for the links, Steve. I've been following this project with interest from afar for some months. About time that this behemoth (love that word...rarely get to use it!!) was back on the rails. We have a similar project underway here in Canberra, with the only standard-gauge Class AD60 Beyer-Garratt soon to re-enter the world of living, breathing steam dinosaurs. The Historical Society have been working on it for quite a few years. The AD60 was the largest steam loco (4-8-4 + 4-8-4) to operate on Australian rails back in the day and one of the largest world-wide. I recall seeing these things on the Northern Line hauling coal back in the 1960s so when they get AD6029 running again I'll have to return to Canberra to see it if we are in Yamba then. Swap you links! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_South_Wales_AD60_class_locomotiveAnd a great B&W video from 1968 on the very piece of line I refer to above. The sight and sound is brilliant....turn your speakers up!

My goodness....that IS a monster Bruce!!!! You'll have to keep me up-to-date on it's restoration project as well.
Speaking of up-to-date......How are you getting along on the move to Yamba. Any buyers for the house yet? Not sure how the home buying in Oz is....but things are starting to pick up again around here. That will be good, as I'm going to have to sell my parents home in Kansas, once they get moved out here to California.
Cheers,

We've had the house on the market for over two months (will be three on 14th. Feb) and apart from a few "interested parties" we've only had one offer, which was ridiculous. House sales are depressed here in Canberra and have been since the elections last September. Anyway....the day will come, it's just a matter of when. We are trying to put our frustrations behind us and be philosophical about it. Bruce

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Steve. Speaking of Yamba....I'm off in the morning (very early) to spend several weeks looking after a house...friend of my sister. If our place sells in the meantime, or anything else pops up, I can be back here within a day. I'll keep in touch with the forum whilst I'm there....same as I did back in October last year when my wife and I spent 10 days up in Yamba. Regards, Bruce
