Hi All, I am looking for the two Quick & Dirty Scenery tutorials (Q&D_1.zip, Q&D_2.zip) by Tom and Art Nichols, which are mentioned in the Scenery Design section. Ofcourse the original links do not work anymore. And I also cannot find them on the download page. I tried to combine the download links of the other files there with the file names of the tutorials, but no luck.
So, are these tutorials still around somewhere?
For the rest, my compliments and I am glad this forum is still up and running. I am planning to return to flight simming after a 4 year break (World of Tanks). Lately I have been reading all threads in the support section, in search of any useful information before installing GW. Just yesterday I finished the last posts there. And now I am about to start the grind on the scenery design section.

Bill, they're not in the 'new' download archive so I suggest that you wait until Tom gets back from his trip in a week or so's time as there's a chance that he'll still have have his original copies. However, ADE (Airport Design Editor) is the design tool of choice these days as it lets you make sceneries for either FS9/GW or FSX very quickly and easily plus it also comes with easy to understand tutorials. The tools that came before really are obsolete now. Why don't you give that a try in the meantime? You might be pleasantly surprised Roger

Thanks for the tip, Roger. I know about ADE and will certainly give it a try. But because the tutorials are written with Airport for Windows in mind, I might want to start there. Although the Airport for Windows website is long gone, I still managed to find it on a South American FlightSim site just yesterday. Together with some other obsolete designer tools. It cannot hurt to tinker and practise a bit with the older design tools, I think.
So, I will wait for Toms return and hope he still has the original copies of the tutorials somewhere floating around on his HD. In the meantime I will continue my grind of the Scenery Design section. And that probably will be a lengthy one. Because when I started there yesterday, within minutes I was sidetracked to a very interesting FS Developer forum thread with more links to even more other also very interesting articles, other forum threads and tutorials on every conceivable aspect of scenery design.
Limiting myself to the TOH Scenery section for the time being, is gonna be the main goal.

Bill, I really think that you'll be wasting your time with Airport for Windows. Any time spent getting back into it would be much better spent on getting into ADE. I deleted all that old stuff from my computer ages ago - Airport, ODE, AFCAD etc - they aren't as instinctive to use as more modern tools like ADE and nothing like as powerful. Also, the stuff you'd be making would almost definitely not be compatible with FSX whereas ADE lets you create for both FSX and FS9/GW with no additional effort. However, it's your call of course.

Hi Bill- I agree with Roger's assessment that ADE is the way to go. Although you might have less than stellar results with AFW, I'll send you links to the tutorials in a private message. Have fun! I did for a long time although it was a long time ago. I'll look at the tutorials for a nostalgia trip in a few minutes.

Thanks for the tutorials, Tom. And thanks for the advice, Roger. I most likely will make ADE the tool of preference. But see it like this: before I taste the best wine EVER, I'll be having a nice glass of rustic vinegar. That will make me appreciate the wine even more.
