Did you ever try to fly formation with an AI aircraft just to see where it goes? I flew with this guy out of Abbotsinch, Scotland (EGPX) for about half hour before he flew into the side of a mountain and disappeared.

In FS9/GW3 I wrote a lot of traffic files and that was always a problem. Lee Swordy the author of the tools wrote those programs for commercial jet traffic and so for our purposes there were sometimes problems. Patterns were very precise but where you and I could fly a PA-18 around a hill and do a short final, the AI was doomed to follow the pattern. We were able to push the envelope (the submarines in the Goose package are AI aircraft that never take off) but never managed to do everything we wanted. There was a lakeside airfield in the Emma Field package that was a tricky but possible landing for humans but the AI would fly into a mountain no matter how it was pointed. It was always a challenge.
Flying formation could be fun though. Sometimes the AI plane would just disappear.
