Had a pop-up from Steam today that showed a Turbine powered engine. Guess I never thought about it much....but that makes sense that someone would try a turbine powered train since Ford made a turbine car and turbine's were used in the Indy 500 a couple times. Seems only natural that someone would get around to trying a turbine powered train. Anyway.....purchased the engine (currently 20% off)..... and it's nicely done. I still enjoy my steam engines even though they are a LOT of work.....and still enjoy a nicely done diesel, so this will round out my experience. (smile) Need to go into YouTube and see if I can find some actual footage of a real GT3 Turbine. That might be fun to watch. Cheers, YouTube: Startup www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHSLgl91otkFirst Look www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIgAKl2EyOUBTW......while searching around for some video....I discovered the U.S. had some turbine powered trains....... Hmmm...I might have to investigate more. Didn't know that!

That looks interesting. I've put it on my wishlist for the Christmas sale. I have way more than I need now

That looks interesting. I've put it on my wishlist for the Christmas sale. I have way more than I need now Same here Tom!! Yep....while I think this engine is very nicely done, I think waiting for a sale is always much better. I put the newly released "Shark Nose" on my wish list and am waiting for the next big sale for that one also. I'm pretty sure I still have a few items from the last Christmas sale in the old barn that haven't yet been used. (smile) As far as the GT3 goes.....I've only driven it a few times, however, I do like it. It's taken a little to get used to the turbine "spooling up" for speed changes etc., however, I did an hour run this morning (approx. 32 miles) and must admit it was the most perfect run I've ever had in Train Sim. Rest assured....that had nothing to do with the engine or my ability....but purely luck! (smile) Cheers,

Yes Bruce.....after I had posted this I did a little research and much to my surprise, there were a number of Turbine's that were tried/tested. I think I read once that trains can move around a ton of freight about 500 miles on a single gallon of fuel. WOW...wish my car could do that. Don't know about turbines in trains....but turbine aircraft couldn't come close to that number. Trains would be more efficient then aircraft....but still it's easy to see in this day and age of fuel prices it would be a losing battle.
Cheers,
