No doubt you've all received emails with the latest blurb.
Well, I hope they have better luck with FSW than they had with the release of TSW, which was an absolute shambles.
Fingers crossed!

I don't know anything about this because it doesn't interest me but logic says that they will have a problem. The flightsim market isn't that big and it's already fragmented with offerings from FSX, P3D and X-Plane. Although X-Plane has a lot of fans and is 64 bit, it's having problems cracking the market open even though FSX/P3D are 10-year old 32 bit technology because of the investment that flightsimmers have made in the latter - time, effort and financial.
So unless FSW is very, very good and offers something that the other sims do not, to differentiate it, I think it will struggle making an impact. But I'm not by nature a jonah (realist, maybe) so I wish them fair winds and good luck and look forward to hearing from others what the new sim has to offer.

From our viewpoint as "old hands" neither TSW nor FSW will hold much appeal. BUT DTG are not all that concerned. They would like to have us along to provide encouragement and support, but we are not in their target demographic. They are delivering a product designed to bring in new customers through the Steam platform. Like 13 year old X-Box gamers with large sums of spendable income who are looking for new worlds to explore.
Both games will faithfully simulate any action that can be performed with an X-Box or PS4 controller. Both have things to accomplish and rewards for accomplishing them. Not to mention the all-important trading cards.
So, yes from our viewpoint both games are a waste of time and money but from DTG's viewpoint they are both successful cash cows. They won't go out of business from displeasing us, or even the whole membership of AVSIM. Our numbers are insignificant in their business plan.
I have both TSW and FSW. I won TSW in a screenshot contest, I got FSW free because I "invested" in DTG Flight School. In both cases I believe I paid what they were worth. TSW is pretty but about as exciting as watching grass grow. FSW isn't even pretty, its FSX. Although to be fair, they fixed a major geographic problem I first reported 12-13 years ago during the FSX beta, so I am sure they must have fixed some other plateaus and valleys. And it is Early Access (ahem early beta) so it may be pretty in the end, but as of this moment it does not offer anything FSX/Acceleration doesn't offer out of the box. And there are useful or needed menu items among the missing. I won't be getting up in the morning and rushing to the computer to play either X-Box game.

Like Tom, I invested in DTG Flight School so received the "free" copy of FSW. (smile)
In my opinion, I don't believe there will ever be a "new" Flightsim that folks will accept out of the box as MicroSoft never did make a good Flightsim.....it was the developers that turned it into the platform and fascination everyone migrated to.
Even taking a developer like Orbx. They've worked years on developing scenery and airports for FSX etc., and turn out new products faster than about anyone. After all their years in production, they've produced......maybe 10% of the world. (Probably high guess)
Anyway...again, only my opinion.....for a development company to completely come up with a new Flight Sim product that will immediately replace everything out there...........well........I don't think it could be done....at least not on a profitable schedule.
Still....only my opinion.
For me.....FSX-Steam is what I'm currently using and it satisfy's the "itch" for Flight Simming. Now that I've found the joys of VR Flying.....(On occasion only)......I'm quite satisfied.
Cheers,
