I really hope that 2018 is twelve months which brings a lot of pleasure and contentment to you all. As you may be aware, back on November 7th. we suffered the effects of a house fire.We are still in temporary accommodation and will be for at least another month, I would say; building tradesmen are on summer holidays and most offices don't reopen until the 8th. of January. However, we are comfortable and are in a place less than 100 metres from our home. Fortunately our place is "usable" to the extent that although it looks like a furniture warehouse + garage sale inside, I have full access to and use of my study (and computer/internet), which was almost unaffected by the smoke. All the best to everyone and remember to check/update your house insurance if you have not done so for some years. You may be very surprised by the value of your home contents.

Happy New Year to one and all. I don't come in here very often anymore, sadly all forums seem to be in decline.
BHK I understand your distressing situation and hope it all gets resolved as soon as you can hope, we had a flood in our basement last year - the city sewer back flowed into our house and everything was destroyed. Apparently the house behind ours was renovated and they carelessly??? allowed a substantial amount of old drywall to fall into the sewer causing the blockage. You can imagine the ugliness! Oh how we laughed ....... 3 months after the event recalling how I tried to stem the tide! Fire is much worse I would imagine, smoke getting everywhere.

..... Fire is much worse I would imagine, smoke getting everywhere. The smell was also something unpleasant but has dissipated over the past month. Unfortunately I have also been through a flood...back in 1963, when I was but a mere lad of 17. It took many months for mum & dad to get back on their feet after that experience.
