For you history buff's.....
I ran across an advertisement for a documentary film about WWI. Unfortunately I may have missed it's viewing, however, if this is as good as it appears, it will be back.
A director/producer by the name of Peter Jackson has taken 100 year old WWI footage and remade it. He started by taking the 13 fps film we all know and love (smile)...... and slowed it down to 24 fps.....used computer technology to fill in the missing frames to make it move smoothly, hired forensic lip readers to document what the folks on the movie are saying, even noting the units they were with so he could hire voice over actors from that region to get the accents correct. (Marvelous!!!) If that wasn't enough......the movie was then colorized!!!
I've only seen a short clip (trailer)... however, my interest is peaked and I'm now searching the film as a "Must not miss" event.
I see where it can be ordered from Amazon......however, I'm not yet sure if it would be playable on a U.S. machine (Dvd) as some of the reviews indicate it is in a U.K. format.
Anyway.....here's a short clip.........
Take note at the beginning how jumpy (13 fps)...the movie is.....then watch Mr. Jackson's magic.
Simply amazing!!!
Cheers!
BTW....the movie is titled: "They Shall Not Grow Old." I also just realized I failed to mention that Mr. Jackson also was able to find archived BBC interviews with WWI soldiers to dub in voice overs to narrate the documentary.
