My son drew my attention to this new iteration of FSim, apparently due for release in 2020.
I am unsure if it is being released for the PC as well as XBox....I would assume so, seeing that it is a Microsoft product.

I hope it will be available for PC as I have no intention of buying an Xbox MERELY for playing games! I do actually have a life!

Bruce, that will.....could be great news, however, I feel as though I've traveled down this road before to only find nothing became of it. A quick google search did turn up something about a FS2020, which sounds and looks official.....Nothing wrong with keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. The trailer was beautiful.......we'll see. (smile) Cheers, Found this on google; www.windowscentral.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-arrives-2020Didn't MS try this once before with "Flight"?

Yeah....it's a definite case of "wait and see", no two ways about it. Nige: I would buy an XBox IF FSim 2020 is as good as it looks because (a) the current price is reasonable and (b) I could use it to play Blue Ray movies and (c) there are a couple of games which I would like and which are not available on PC.

With Windows 7, I am out of the picture. The PC version will require Windows 10. I was invited to the party early but even testing requires Windows 10 so I didn't finish the application. I suppose if it ever gets finished and if I live long enough to get a new computer I will buy it, but although I am pleased they are developing a new sim, I am far from excited. I haven't even fallen for Austin's Folly 11 and P3Dud never even tempted me. I think I burned out banging my head against a wall during the MS Flight beta testing. Nowadays its just Trains, Trains and sometimes Trainz keeping me happy. With FSX-SE for those odd moments.
I can't buy an XBox. After 20 years of bad-mouthing console gaming, I would never live it down. (or live with myself...LOL)

Well, well, well. It's two weeks away from release. I now have (ugh) Windoze 10 on all computers and I guess I have the horsepower to run it. Question is, do I want to spend $60 on a new flight sim when I hardly ever start up the old one? I spend most of my time playing train(z).

Curiosity will surely get the better of you, Tom. I know that it will bite me......I haven't fired up FS2004 for a long time (it's not on this W10 computer but is on my XP laptop) but having owned every version of FS since the first one I want to see what it offers. I also would like to have a go at recreating some of the Flights I created for FS9/FS2004.

All of us "Older" flight guys think alike I guess....(smile).... I just watched a video and came in here to post a link to it and give my two cents, however, looks like you guys beat me too it. (Smile) Yes....I too have purchased every flight sim starting with FS3 many years ago. I've always been interested in low and slow flying with dreams of VFR flights with "believable" VFR scenery. I really don't care if it's 100% accurate as long as its "good enough" to do a little VFR flying. From what I've read and been viewing the past week or so.....I must admit I'm excited about this release. I did already purchase... and in fact, I'm taking the week of Aug 17-21 as vacation this year to hopefully burn myself out on VFR flying. (smile) I watched this review this evening on a flight in Oz which I thought the review seemed to give a very unbiased and believable review. I'll post the link. It is quite lengthy.....if you choose not to watch the entire video (around 28 minutes)....at least fast forward to minute 18:00 and view some of the scenery. Very impressive in my humble opinion. Okay.....it's late here........off to bed to dream of future flights. (smile) Cheers fella's! www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtuayO6T3rs

My God!!! Steve...that IS Canberra, all the geography between that city and Sydney and then Sydney itself!! It is as if I'm reliving a flight I did many times back in the late 80's - early 90's.

I thought you might like this one Bruce!! (smile) While I'm sure there will be folks to pick apart this sim.....it's looking pretty spiffy to me. The BIG question will be if I can run the sim. Interesting enough....(and much to my surprise).....I watched a video comparing the different levels of detail; i.e., Low, Med, High & Ultra. In FSX if I wanted ALL the trees and buildings, I pretty much had to fly on Ultra. This video however, the same amount of trees and buildings seemed to be present at all levels...the crispness was obviously less in Low than it was in Ultra and it looked on the low level the scenery refreshed more while Ultra was pretty seamless. Bottom line.....I'm keeping my fingers crossed and we'll see. At least I think these folks are trying their best to do things right.....can't ask for more than that. On a different note:.....Received my new jar of Vegemite today. (smile) Looking forward to breakfast and a cheese bagel in the morning. (smile) Cheers!

Steve... I hope you enjoyed your Vegemite. In following up to that video, I was interested to learn that the amount of data that needs to be downloaded (streamed) when using the "cloud" repository for the landscaping is quite considerable....depending on the level of detail and the other parameters. I am on a 100Gb (data-download plan) per month, so to hear that 24Gb was used for the time he's spent in the beta version was somewhat disconcerting. But, as he said, the program does include the ability to automatically monitor the streaming download and to put a cap on how much is streamed before it stops and reverts to the as-installed data. So that's a plus.

G'day there fellas, I reckon it looks great, but they will sure gouge the dollars out of the punters as there are pay for trees addons etc, cringe, and I think I will wait till it is all stable and any "patches" as we all know will be coming for the bugs.I did hear somewhere that "weapons" effects will be available for choice too, which will make multiplayer escorting or airliners fun if there are any nasties come sniffing. lol.hope so. Being an avid combat flight simmer as well , ex CFS 1 2 & 3 on the "zone" remember that place ? and lastly hyper lobby IL2 1946, bring back the zone MS !. tail winds for all and watch ya 6 for cov19 bogies stay safe Sharkzz aka Lozza NSW south coast ...

So that's a plus. Ahhh.....yes indeed....I can see one's concern. If I could somehow plug in an area.....such as the Pacific Northwest.....I would hope MS could perhaps provide enough scenery to do the flight. Maybe give up a continuous update of weather and other aircraft etc. In FSX there was the "Update weather" ability. I always had it turned off. I would get the weather update at the start of the flight but didn't want any other weather. In my opinion that never really worked very well. Seemed I would start out in bright clear sky's and just as I was on final approach, the weather would drastically change all at once. Anyway....I generally had that feature disabled. Also.....I was never a big fan of flying with others....or multi-player activities. It was "mostly" enjoyable...but there were times when there would be a jerk or two show up. Don't want to get my blood pressure up while trying to enjoy a hobby. (smile) Seems the norm anymore is to be as rude as a person can be. Geezzz I sound old and grumpy. That's right....I am. (smile) Cheers my friend!!

I don't like multiplayer.....persevered with World of Warships for a year or so but gave it away for the very reasons you mentioned....kids being total ****holes under the cover of anonymity.

Yes.....World of Warships. I loved the game, however, that was the first program I had where I decided I don't play well with others. (smile) Never have looked back and don't miss it.
I'll stick to my simple solo games.....it's always an enjoyable experience and every now and again I will do something to amaze myself. (smile)
Cheers!
