Steve better than having a large Pittie with sharp teeth come hurtling out and start chasing you at high speed up the street Yes indeed...I have had those situations over the years. (smile) But I was thankful nothing more than my pride was injured. I can't believe I didn't hurt that poor little dog as I really plowed into his side. Nige....good looking bike. I can't ever said I had one quite that fancy. I was never really into riding fast...however, I did enjoy a mountain bike I had, and also what is called a hybrid. While I have done some riding on unimproved surfaces, I prefer a paved bike trail/path etc. The gravel paths aren't too bad....but a few of those I've ridden were not maintained very well and became fairly rough in places. On the other hand....my riding partner (wife)...she only wants paved routes, so there you have it. (smile) Cheers,

I look in most days but haven't posted anything for yonks as not much has happened worth posting, however, as the subject of two wheels has arisen I thought I might add my bit. When I lived in London I bought a bicycle and did quite a bit of riding on it, including going in the London to Brighton bike ride, along with 30,000 other riders. When I came back to Australia in 1994 for some reason it got put into the back of the garage and forgotten about. Recently, I thought I would haul it out and restore it. I knew it was probably a good bike as all the cycle parts were French or Italian. On a whim I Googled the maker, C.N.C., and found that it is a fairly rare collectors item! This link thevelocollective.com/vintage-gem-1982-c-n-c-special/ will take you to a bike virtually identical to mine. I am now inspired to restore the bike as best I can and take it for the occasional gentle perambulate, as befits my current age and state of minor decrepitude. Good on you Nige. You're never too decrepit for a gentle perambulate. Or for a ride on your bike...

I have found a bike shop who have agreed to totally restore my bike, using only original French age-appropriate parts and will charge what I think is a very reasonable price. They will spray it the original colour, which is silver, and reproduce the original decals. I am quite looking forwards to getting it back, although it will probably take several months.

Nige....that is TERRIFIC News indeed. So what if it takes a few months....it will be wonderful to have it in pristine condition once again. Good on you!!!!! My wife and I are starting to get back into riding once again, now that the weather is warming up. I'm afraid I've gotten soft over the years and want it to be comfortable when we ride. (smile) We've been on 4 rides thus far and both of us enjoy the outdoors. When not riding, I generally go for a walk as I'm just getting ready for this morning.
Again....Lovely to hear you returning your bike to like new condition!!
Cheers!

Same from me Nige. Sadly it looks as though my own e-bike exploits are coming to a premature end. Because of its power and speed capability the bike has to be registered, insured etc in France like a small motorbike and on my third attempt having been declined twice I received a message two days ago saying that the bike hasn't been 'homologated' for use on public roads in the EU. It's typical for French government bureaucrats not to help or advise you in any way and to just keep rejecting your application for anything for whatever reason so you make a correction and reapply only to be rejected again for a different reason that they didn't mention the last time. This keeps them in jobs. But ultimately it appears that like a new car needing to be granted type approval, an e-bike is similar. The manufacturer has to apply to the government of an EU state to sell it and when that permission is granted, it can then be sold throughout the EU. My guess is that a hefty fee is involved which is why the manufacturer of my bike hasn't done so and why locally produced bikes cost several thousand euros more. My time and patience has now run out as I have other priorities to attend to, like servicing my aircraft and getting them back in the air as well as getting my house internally ship-shape. I already told the French web site through which I bought the bike that I did so in good faith but that if it cannot be legally used in France it was their responsibility to either (a) point that out or (b) not list it in the first place. I sent the registered letter off this morning kick-starting my demand for a refund. It's all very sad as from the research I've done, I'm sure that the bike does meet the legal requirements. It's just that French and EU bureaucracy are so intractable

Oh Roger!! What a pain in the backside THAT must be.....and again, the consumer ends up paying the price with their time and effort!! That has to be irritating to say the least!
I haven't checked for years now.....but that use to be a controversial subject over here....."Do I have to register my e-bike or not?" I didn't spend much time on it, as in those days I only had my hybrid bike and my wife wasn't that intrested....not only that....the e-bikes back then were just a little out of what I was willing to pay. I do believe that has all been sorted out now....but with the Class A bikes, (electric ASSIST) that was never an issue.
I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles....but surely that will be sorted out. Please do let us know how things turn out. Best wishes sent your way my friend!!!
Cheers,
