I have had my CH yoke and rudder pedals for about 8 years and was thinking that after 8 years the insides might need to be cleaned out. Has anyone ever taken apart their flight controllers and cleaned the insides? The reason I am asking is that lately my yoke and pedals haven't seem as responsive as usual. I would hate to take them apart and then not get them back together.
Thanks,

I wouldn't recommend taking them apart! I have taken apart and put back together things like radios and electic motors, but something like a yoke I would definitely not do!
This might void the warranty also. I had to send in my CH Yoke because the screw got frozen and wouldn't tighten or loosen. I think it took about 2-3 weeks, if you didn't specify express shipping of some sort.
Speaking for the warranty, I don't think you should take them apart!

Do warranties on this stuff run for 8 years?

Oh.. lol I guess I didn't take that in to account when mentioning the warranties. But maybe they do? For problems you didn't cause, I would suppose it would have a rather long warranty. Better check on that.

I dont have CH, or yoke and pedals, but have 'operated' on several joysticks over the years. Usually the base will open while leaving 'guts' intact. With a little care and attention to details it can be done. You dont say whether the lack of response is mechanical or electronic, but at 8 yrs., I'd guess a little of both. Make sure you have a clean area to work in, both your bench and surrounding area. It makes it easier to find springs and such that might attempt an escape. Also, as you disassemble, notes, sketches, or a digital camera can guide you in reassembly. Mechanically, look for dirt, loose parts and wear (particularly in pivots and linkage). For cleaning, isopropal alcohol wipes or electronics parts cleaner, no water around electronics. If lube is necessary, make sure its compatible with plastic and keep it away from the electronics. Electrically, look for cold or loose solder joints, and clean the pcb's of dust and grime. Potentiometers can be worn or dirty. Worn usually requires replacement. If dirty, electronics parts cleaner and compressed air sprayed inside can sometimes restore them. If your uncomfortable with tearing it apart yourself, CH does offer repair/refurbishing through their Support section. They also can provide replacement parts/kits for some of their products. Inside CH Yoke. May not be your yoke (or your language ), but should give you an idea what's inside and how to get there. (I was able to translate using Google Toolbar-translate. Search 'ch yokes'-images.) Dave No warranty expressed or implied

Dave, Thanks for the input, the Inside a CH Yoke website looks interesting, I will try having in translated later tonight. I have been searching the CH Products forum for information on cleaning their products and about all they say is that if can be done if you are up to the task; but if the products are still under warranty taking them apart will void the warranty. What I am going to do, is open them up just a crack and spray compressed air in to stir things up and also lube the yoke with some graphite lubricant that CH Products recommends using.
Thanks
