I put this hard drive in this cigar box so I can take it with me when I go to my friends house to share files he has broad band and I don't Anyway I added fans from my junk box and made up a fan speed controller for noise. And a on-off switch so I don't have to unplug all the time the cutout in the lid is to clearance for the off switch. (when the lid is closed) The brackets are screwed down from the bottom. The box is wood covered with paper. you can get empty cigar boxes from cigar stores. Two or three bucks. The fancy ones are some times more. any way all the cords fit in side and the lid closes with a latch. If one doesn't add all the crap I put on mine it makes a neat little package and will fit in a smaller box.

Oh... is that cool....
so... an additional or seperate fan unit ... My machine has four USB ports ... with one in use ... controler. Could use a box of good cigars ... Brackets and HD I have ... Also ... any technical advice I can get from the wizzards at Lynchburg College ... I don't lecture there (I am over at Randolph College (Formerly Randolph Macon Women's College - They go co-ed next year) But my Son-in-law is the Food Service Manager ... and he knows a few, in fact they put his machine together. I had wanted to upgrade this to a Pent IV ... it has a Celeron ... I had ordered one (they are hard to find for this machine .. but they sent me the wrong one ... so theplace where I had theminstall it (as I couldn't get it to work ... sold me a Intel Celeron 2700 MHz - Processors Bus Speed : 400 MHz - a(the one that came with this was a 1.99 and I sent back the other and got a refund. -- nVidia PCI GeForce2 MX video card. ... I run a gig of ram (tops for this machine) -- according to Dell, if I can find one .. I can up grade the processor to a Intel P4 2.8GHz 400MHz FSB 478pin 512K Northwood CPU OEM 400 Front Side Bus but right now, as it fluxuates .. they are a bit pricy (around 170 - 220 range)

The Fans and switches i added are not necessary. I added them for the ge wiz factor. heck you don't need a box. whisky? lynchburg VA?? Computer in a barrel?? ;D The video card is working to hard. The stability problem is hard to diagnose. But with 400 FSB I bet it is the mother board or the ram at the speeds you are running the best ram you can buy is a must. (corsair or something like) I have worked on some Dells and I Know that there is no room inside to do much. Get a much better video card. The CPU you have can work for a while. Check that the heat transfer grease under the CPU is correct Dell has a problem there. Any way i hope I can help. E me if you want

That's a neat idea with the cigar box HDD. I used to have something similar that I fixed up in a plastic box for transferring data from my big computer to a notebook pc that I used to use for work. It was SCSI though as at the time USB wasn't real common yet.
Hard drive space is a real issue for me right now as well. I'm thinking about taking FSX off of my computer until I get a new hard drive. I fly both FS9 and Xplane 8 a lot more than FSX so if one has to go, it'll have to be FSX. A shame with SP1 just around the corner.
