The pictures look wonderful but I honestly don't know if I would fly them enough to spend the money. I plan to buy their new Cirrus and we'll see what happens next.

Thanks Dan. I was using use Active Sky 2004 with FS Sky World 2004 in that shot. Now the New Active Sky 5 has all the cloud sets of FS Sky World included in it. I also use FSWater (Flight 1). I have a few more that are even better but I don't want to press my luck with Jet shots in this forum.... unless a moderator says its OK

Thats how I feel about the Heavies. I have the PMDG 737, the PSS Condord 2004, the Captain Sim 727 and 707 and the PSS A340 and none are on my PC. I fly them once or twice and get bored and never use them again. I do keep the Citation II and X on the PC because once in a while I love to fly them. Honestly at the moment my favorite aircrafts are the Flight1 PC12 for modern type and Milton's Beech 18 for Vintage type. The SR20 and SR22 should be nice (for the sim) but in real life I hear that Cirrus does not recommend grass and dirt fields for their aircraft. Since I like to keep things real that is kind of a bummer. Also that weird side stick is also a turn off for me. I tried it out but don't like it at all. It's like half a yoke. Not a stick and not a yoke. Just can't get used to it.

Keith, I understand - ha - we're probably already pressing our luck! Thanks for the info - that was it - Active Sky. I already use FS Sky World weather textures (freeware version) and now, that it is included in Active Sky, I may just buy Active Sky. If you don't mind me asking - how much more 'active' is the weather of Active Sky over the default real world feature of FS 9 - that much difference to warrent the price?

Dan,
Like night and day! The default weather will give you maybe 2 layers of clouds but Active sky gives you as many as needed to make the weather look real. It really does make a big difference. HOWEVER, I make weather themes for myself for when I want to fly certain weather paterns and those will look just as nice as Active Sky weather because I use 6,7 or even 9 layers of clouds in the themes. I don't know why MS default weather uses such few layers but I guess it is to save frame rates.
I may be releasing a weather theme series at some point. For people with slower PCs that want great looking skys that is the way to go. Active Sky does use some CPU power because it is a seperate program running in the background.

Keith, I was afraid of that - frame rates. I have enough problems with them as it is now without weather. Did you mean that your weather theme series will be the way to go for slower PC's or Active Sky - wasn't sure which you meant?

Dan,
I create weather themes and those are much more framerate friendly because there is no active internet connection or additional software running so the themes are the way to go for slower PCs. Honestly I build my themes with real meteorological data so they are very realistic. I create weather areas inside weather areas so there is lots of changes going on as well. Themes are easy to make in theory but without real and precise weather data they are not very realistic. I like to add lots of suprises scattered throughout the weather area so you will get random turbulence, icing in certain conditions, pressure, dew points and humidity also play a big part in how the aircraft engine will handle so that is important as well. You will notice the engine needs to be constantly leaned and riched as in real world. I use these for real world training. Let me send you one and you can try it out. Since you are in Atlanta (not far from me in the deep south) I have a great theme for "Hot Summer day with high humidity" and it really shows the quality. They are very small files (like 150k or so) so I can email it to you with easy install instructions.
I like it because if I am planning a real flight from New Orleans to Atlanta and I know what the weather will be like I can call up a theme that fits and fly that rather then Active Sky because at that point I don't want real time weather I want tomorrows weather today. See my point?

Keith, that will be great!! Sounds perfect for around here - hot and humid - as it has been the last week. I believe my email address is listed here. No rush - whenever you get time.
I'm in the middle of a flight from Anchorage, Alaska to Ketchikan in the Citation X - just had to get it out of my system!

That's why I don't mention my Cloud 9 F-104...though it's certainly old enough! We have a saying here that the quickest way to own an F104 is to buy a plot of land and wait... There'll be one along any time... Afterburners... Indian is fine, but has no style once you have done Thai. I even used to prefer Cantonese until I started the Thai stuff. As for DIY - well, my creative style is Greek-Med. I make a mean Tzatziki and my use of garlic amounts to "one for me, one for you and three for the pot.." It's 5:00 a.m. and I am getting hungry! Whose idea was it to start cooking? ;D

Ok! Now I know what afterburner means! If I take off with my Tiger Moth (or another open cockpit palne) after a big lunch comprising a very very hot chili or curry or similar sauces and I try to smoke a good cigar, the result is a noticeable increase in speed.... Or a decrease, depending were you are turned to... Panty

However thursday night is Madras night at my kitchen with a pint of Stella Artrois Ahh... Stella Artois, Belgian export product, brewn in my hometown! Did you know it's alcohol percentage is lower in the version for export than the one we drink here! If you want to try some really good Belgian beer, try the "heavies": Leffe, Corsendonck, or any Trappist. Westvleteren was elected best beer of the world for a reason, you know! www.adamsmith.org/blog/archives/2004-12-15-leffe.jpgwww.sintsixtus.be/foto/soorten%20bier.jpgYummie, it's still a bit early for beer here, but I'll sure have one tonight!
