What a beautiful model! Is that a commercial product or freeware?

I've often thought about getting that plane. But from the pictures I've seen, it seems so close to my Dreamfleet Piper Archer. I know that real world planes are very similar. Do you have any idea if they handle differently. I was just wondering if there is enough difference between the two planes to make it worth getting the Cherokee.

Here are the specs below. Remember that the Archer is in the same family (PS-28) as the Cherokee (and a few other Piper planes as well) so the specs are very close. As far as quality... well, the Cherokee by Caranado has them all beat hands down. It looks and acts just like the real thing. In all honesty all planes in this class or size will perform the same (as far as speed and climb foes anyway) within a few knots of each other. The real thing to consider is simple... how well you like each plane. Just like a car, each will get you where you need to go at about the same speed and comfort rating.... we as consumers just have so much to choose from that we forget that the best plane for you will not be the best for me... even if they are almost the same model. BTW. I don't want to mislead anyone.. that's not the default avionics setup in the 180 I posted. It has the new SimFlyer/PC-Aviation units installed. Piper PA-28-181 Archer IIHorsepower: 180 Top Speed: 129 kts Cruise Speed: 125 kts Stall Speed (dirty): 49 kts Rate Of Climb: 667 fpm Ceiling: 13236 ft Piper PA-28 C 180F CherokeeHorsepower: 180 Top Speed: 132 kts Cruise Speed: 124 kts Stall Speed (dirty): 50 kts Rate Of Climb: 750 fpm Ceiling: 16500 ft

I've been watching all these new threads with a great deal of enjoyment. I have 3 PA-28s from Carenado, each a little different from the other. I think one was made for FS2002 but it holds up well in FS9. I'm currently building an all new General Aviation version of FS9 on my new Athlon 64. I hope to have it running later this week. The "necessary" add-ons are a bigger list than I remembered

Yep, the "necessary" list seems to get larger as we go huh? Just like in real life... it is now considered "necessary" for us all to have DSL, Cable TV, cell phones etc... I remember when I was a kid it was "necessary" to have a home phone (most had party lines) but now we don't even leave our home without looking like RoboCop... All these gadgets clipped onto us everywhere. Boy, and I remember laughing at those old movies from the 60s and now we are living them.

Your right Keith - I was raised back in the 50's with one phone, one TV, one car, and one oven. We raised our 3 kids the same - well, we did have two cars. But now - my wife and I have four different phone numbers, 3 cars & a truck, two ovens, a computer/printer/copier/scanner, pda, etc. etc., but, still only one TV, but two sources - regular & satellite. It's crazy - especially when all phones start ringing at the same time - we just kind'a look at each other - not sure what to do - - - What ever happened to the 6:00 news - you know, the one that lasted only 30 minutes each day with Walter - is CBS still in business?? Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Well, I had the Carenado Dakota for about 3 weeks and loved it - until I cracked it up looking for that d^$# DC-3 in Captain Keith's 2nd Adventure series, 3rd episode. Busted a wing on the Stationair in the 1st episode now I only have one Carenado left - and I'm not taking the V-tail into any jungle - not going to do it. Think I'll use a default plane - - - Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

You know it's funny with as many computers as I own (6 with 4 on a network) how much of a Luddite I have become in other areas. I have a regular house phone which I let the answering machine answer. I have one prepaid cell phone which I only turn on when I travel, I don't own an automobile, my microwave is broken, I actually used my VCR yesterday for the first time in months. I have cable tv but only turn it on to watch a cooking show or a Nascar race. And there is only 1 tv. I had another in the kitchen but that's trash. No PDA, no picture phone, but I do have a Creative Zen MP3 player (like an iPod but gloriously NOT an Apple product) I am still amazed by the sight of people jabbering into their cellphones everywhere. I don't want to be THAT in-touch LOL

I don't have a cell phone either, I haven't been able to hear well enough to use a phone since I was 10 and there were no cell phones as far as I know of back then. We do have 5 computers in my house, but only two of them are mine. The other three are ones I've built and given to members of my family. I have a stack of dinosaurs in the attic of my workshop left over from when I used to build computers. But I do have gadgets all over the place, it does make me think of those older sf movies. When you see them, you think, 'yeah, sure' but then most people won't even leave home without their collection of trusty gadgets. ;D
Thanks for the comparison. I may check out those Carenado Pipers yet.

ha! . . . that's the only reason we got the Satillite Dish - NASCAR. One of my sons went to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University for 5 years, which is about a 1/2 mile from the Daytona track. He started going to the races down there and naturally so did we - - - there, here in Atlanta, Talladega - it's been every weekend in front of the TV for the last 10 years or so . . . Of course, we then had to upgrade to get the Speed Channel, FOXS, etc. and now I couldn't live without it, the Weather Channel, History, etc. etc. Anyway, back to cars - I mean planes. Does anyone know what Carenado is working on next - haven't heard anything and typically they are tight lipped up until a couple of weeks before the release. Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

What ever happened to the 6:00 news - you know, the one that lasted only 30 minutes each day with Walter - The 6:00 news? It now comes on at 5, 6, 9 10 and 11 on local stations but is replayed 24 hours-a-day on the replay news cable channel while CNN, MSNBC Headline News and the dozen or so other news channels on Sat and cable play their world news 24/7/365. Makes you want to just jump out of a 10 story window... but then you would just have to lay in a hospital bed (you can't kill yourself from a 10 story fall anymore because all the gadgets you carry act as a sort of cushion) and watch yourself at 5,6, 9, 10 and 11 and 24/7 on CNN and MSNBC doing it.

Yep, I have those new jeans with the pocket and knee airbags installed. And my wife is going in her lunch break to have the fingernail airbags installed.... no more broken nails for her. INSANE HUH?? Lunchtime surgery? But it is available now. What's next... drive-thru face-lifts?? One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE movie lines is from Men in Black, when Tommy Lee Jones tells Will Smith the "we now know speech." We know know? Everything that we thought we knew 10-20 years ago is all different. Cholesterol is BAD for you... we now know that only bad cholesterol is bad for you but good cholesterol is good for you. We now know that eating eggs will clog the artries... but now we know that eggs have a way of cleaning out any bad cholesterol they leave and are actually good for you... ahhh, as Tommy Lee Jones said in the movie... what will we know tomorrow?
