...... Last, that Jules Verne airship has possibilities, doesn't it..... Ooh! Ooh! Is this an indication of the birth of a project, Dennis? Bruce

Paul Clawson did an FS2002 1933 Kalinin K-7 (I think it was issued in 2002 as well), but a newer one would be nice. Just to go from one image-quality extreme to another and display the full imagination of Russian designers of the 30s, how about this? Talk about needing a cool head and a steady hand! Leyland

Hello, Guys, The idea of a mothership and fighters is tragically prophetic of the Maksim Gorki's demise. They were flying it over Moscow with fighters on either side, when one of the fighter pilots got bored and decided to stunt around. He more or less barrel-rolled into one of the Gorki wings. Many died in the ensuing crash, both in the plane and on the ground. I forgot his name, but it came to mean "hooligan" in Russian. There's a plaque commemorating the tragedy at the site. And, yes, I'm kinda thinking of that whimsical airship. I've avoided non-real planes, though God knows I've come on a lot of whimsical real ones. My current project, fairly well along, is the Zeppelin-Staaken E.4/20 airliner, the one they had to destroy because of the Versailles Treaty. Maybe once it's done... I like all the people lounging around the airship. Dennis

What a remarkable 3d artist. I can not even imagine the time put into them. The airship sure is pretty (though windage has to be a killer )

That airship and the aircraft are just plain, flat out, totally awesome...
That airship just looks like tons of fun to fly. Wouldnt it be cool if there were auto-animated items that ran on it, sort of like AutoGen scenery, such as people walking about, trollies moving along a rib or down the keel, etc.
The only way that could 'really' work is if there was a new type of lifting gas developed in the 'imaginary old days' of this 'dimension' or what ever it might be, in which the cells could be much lighter then. And... It was definately 'not' designed by a person that cared about aerodynamic efficiency, but I just dont care, lol.. Its to darn fun looking!
Check the rear greenhouse glass dome structure at the stern. There is also a dolly car or the likes, that takes you along the keel to the rear engine gondolla or island...

Dennis, I have been toying with sci-fi vintage Jules Verne like stuff also, so you are not alone.
A while back, I started on a giant biplane that would be steam powered and have about 8 people on board and would be able to fly for a couple of days at a time. (Low steam use longitudinal cylinders, similar in design to logging gas piston powered saw mills from the early 1900's).
Another is a VTOL Fokker prototype for the WWI era, lol. Powered by a Oberursel laying face up in the 'lifting body' similar to the Avro F.

Great site Barb, if any of the artists over there are interested in working on amateur FS movies, send em my way. We have a small crew working away, but more talent is always welcome.
I will have to join up, it looks like my kind of place.
Cheers Shad

That was a proposed "Vacuum Balloon" as it was called it Russia.
Rather than me translating it all, change your Character encoding to Cyrillic, then copy and paste it into Babelfish and choose Russian to English. It will be a rough translation, but you will get the idea. You may try pasting the URL into Bablefish and see if the page will translate, but I doubt it. I know the text will.
I use Babelfish a lot rather than try taking my time to translitirate the Cyrillic and then translate the Russian. Understand some Russian differences, articles like "a" and "the" are seldom used. Also, prepositions are indicated by a vowel at the end of a nour, balona would mean "of the balloon".
That is some fantastic artwork on that site.
Good stiff Dennis, I have your Russian biggies.
