The models are completed, waiting for an update on the scenery and final compilations of the installer. My hope is to have it uploaded Christmas week, but unfortunately not before. We decided to model the A-6000 versions as well with the 450 Pratt and 54 ft wingspan. This added some time to the project, but I think it was worth it.
Happy Holidays all

Take a look at this video. It was sent to us by a very satisfied customer and represents the actual plane in flight complete with sound. I think you'll regognize it as one of the planes in the package www.seemorewildlife.com/video/Travel_Air.html

Hi, everyone. I have to admit to never actually "flown" a flight simulator on a desktop computer before, but there is a group of us building an aviation museum based on "Smiling Thru" a 1929 Travel Air S6000B that was significant in the development of business aviation. Our long-term goals include restoring/replicating "Smiling Thru", but on a short-term basis, we'd really love to have a flight simulator that would allow kids (and kids at heart) visiting our museum fly "Smiling Thru" from the old Newton, Iowa landing strip, around the midwest. I guess my job here, is to "get smart" on what it would take to customize the Travel Air 6000 sim to replicate "Smiling Thru" as well as the scenery of the era. Here are some pics/links to our project. The building itself is finished; it just needs windows and a hangar door. There she is. Except for the lettering, she is similar to the two-tone blue on blue of NC9084 of Bill DeCreeft's bird as shown in the sim. Except she is a two-tone green, with "Start the Week With a Smile" on the leading edges of both wings. I'd like to thank whomever had the gumption to make a Travel Air 6000 simulation. You've added at least 6 more people to your hobby, down in Newton, Iowa. And who knows how many more people who will come through our museum through the years.

Wow, Jim would like this one. His Dad had one at Phenick Flying Service. I remember him talking about it when I did Old Ohio Airports. I will see if I still have the pics from that website.

Quick Update: Managed to get a new computer with a good video card, and an "el cheapo" joystick at the second hand store for $4. Bought a copy of FS2004, learned how to "fly" and then set about downloading the Travel Air program. After a few false starts, due to my lack of knowledge, I have the Travel Air installed in my FS9, and am flying it. Out of all my "airplanes", this one flies the best. In fact, I was having a hard time calibrating my cheap joystick, and now that I've downloaded this program, my joystick works perfectly I write instructions for a living, and the installation instructions were clear, concise and left nothing out. I am a lot smarter now, on flight sims as well.

Thats good news!...Glad you like our bird, it flies better then it looks ! I use an old Microsoft sidewinder-pro which in my opinion is the best stick ever made. However they are no longer around but you may still find one on Ebay and such.Good luck and good simming.... best Gil

Dumb question: Unless I very, very gently touch down, my land version swipes the gear off and "crashes" on landing. Provided that the real Travel Air 6000s had one of the most robust landing gear ever put on an aircraft, which helped it stay in service under some truly rough conditions until the present day, is there a way to make this more realistic?
I'd think that you'd get a lot of shock absorber travel and "bounce" from a hard landing, but I don't see where my landings should be realistically swiping off the gear.
Any suggestions?
