Hello All !!!!
Well, Meacham Field is on "The Old Hangar" and hope that everyone who has downloaded it has enjoyed it. Add a note to tell me what you thought, good, bad or indifferent. Our ideas may lead to something special here in the "Old Hangar" Now about my new scenery.
I posted a few pictures of the basic layout of KAKR, Akron, Ohio. I've been busy adding detail including the original terminal. The idea behind this scenery and adventure is simple. In 1902, Goodyear Tire and Rubber company started making blimps. Their first facility was Wing Foot Lake, approximately 8.5 miles S.E. from KAKR. The original blimp construction hangar was to be 100' X 200' X 90'. Before construction was started, it was changed to 100' x 400' x 90'. In the early twenties, Goodyear started construction of the current Air dock at KAKR. It was completed by 1929 and by 1933 both the Macon and Akron ridged airships had been delivered to the U.S. Navy.
When when complete, you the pilot will aide those as well as other airships return to KAKR by escorting them in your favorite plane. After arrival, there will be big festivities, including bon-fires, fireworks, and other activities. The next morning the pilot will be responsible for transporting the Goodyear Defender back to the hangar where she was built at Wing Foot Lake.
There's a lot of traffic, A number of airships will be moving into and out of Wing Foot Lake, even the moored blimps in the photos below are AI.
Last you will return to KAKR and escort which ever airship back to it's starting point, i.e., California, england, Germany.
Here's a few photos of Goodyear's Wing Foot Lake Facility.
Comments welcome,
Hope you enjoy!
