First of all, I must apologize for the poor quality of these photos. They were photographed from a book which had colorized them to simulate a sepia tone picture. I converted the images to greyscale and sharpen them the best I could. The first picture is a view of the Oklahoma City Municipal Airport from the air in 1929. The large structure on the extreme right with the writing on the roof is the Braniff Hanger. It looks like the airport is basically just three hangers with a long dirt runway leading up to it. Here is a close up view of the Braniff Hangar at the Oklahoma City Municipal Airport. Braniff was part of the Universal Air Lines (That is what the UAL stands for on the roof) system which handled the flights here in the southwest for the system. As far as I can tell the closest Latitude and longitude coordinates are. Degrees Minutes Seconds: Latitude: 352554N Longitude: 0973408W Decimal Degrees: Latitude: 35.43167 Longitude: -97.56889 Bill

Bill, When I'm doing the sceneries, I try to get them as close as possibile to their actual position. However, I also orintate them to the mesh and scenery present in the simulator. Some of my airports are not in the exact spot, but none have had to be located outside the base grid square. I went to Kevin's "Beacon" and got this information about you home airport. Thanks for the photos, I've almost completed Memphis and will be headed toward Birmingham, Al. MoCat

Hey there MoCat, Believe it or not, Oklahoma City Air Terminal is a different and newer airport than Oklahoma City Municipal Airport. I believed it opened in 1930 and it had a nice brick terminal and paved runways. I'll look and see if I can find any examples of what it looked like.

Bill,
You might be right, I looked in the beacon, and that's for 1936. If your Long. and Lat. are right it would have been real close to Curtis-Wright Airport.
I continue to research, any other info you come up with will greatly be appriciated at the time I start the scenery.
Thanks.

MoCat, These pictures were REALLY hard to find, and then again my photographic skills don't help a whole lot either. This is the best picture that I could find of the Oklahoma City Air Terminal. The details on the original photo were much better so if you have a question about something let me know. I'll get my magnifying glass out and see what I can discover. The banner underneath the dark overhang in the middle of the building says, "Oklahoma City Air Terminal". This is a picture of a hanger near the terminal building. The sign in front says, (In big letters)"Municipal Hanger" and below it in smaller letters it says, "Oklahoma City Air Terminal" I'll keep looking to see if I can find anymore pictures that could give you more details. MoCat, Just a few more tidbits of info for you. I found this postcard of the Oklahoma Air Terminal circa 1940, which may explain some of the difference between the picture and the painting. Also, here's a diagram of the layout of the airport itself. From what I've found out so far, the Oklahoma City Municipal Airport and the Oklahoma City Air Terminal are located on the same ground, so your coordinates should be fine. You can tell me to stop anytime if you are getting information overload!!! Bill

Ok, I'll get there soon, bet you can't wait. I took last night and tonight away from NAT, did Fort Ticonderoga in NY, for Beana51. I'll be back on NAT Tomarrow. My mind was fried.
MoCat
Again, Thanks for your help in researching, it will make my job less time consuming.

Hey no problem, MoCat.
I understand how much work this is for you and the last thing that any of us want is for you to get burned out. There is no way that I could produce such quality work in such a short time (for that matter I don't think I could do this kind of work at all and do it justice). So, don't worry. I'm sure that all of us can wait for your masterpiece to be complete. Take a break, you've certainly earned it.
