On March 2, 1928, Houston's municipal airport officially opened. "Planes Darken Sky As Flyers Arrive for Airport Fete," a headline announced that day. The original Terminal at Houston field was not purpose built as a terminal, but was converted for use as the airport terminal. The original Terminal & field aerial view. The original Terminal burned down shortly after the "new" terminal opened in 1940. Hmmmm..sounds fishy to me. Here's a picture of the new 1940 art deco terminal that stills stands today. Bill

Hello All, espicially lifejogger and Glide,
What should we do? Should I model the 1940s Terminal or the 1930s Terminal for the scenery?
Help me decide!

Hi,Mocat, The 1940 Terminal is a beautiful work of "Art Deco" .Glad it survived the constant "knock em down, build em up frenzy that often sends some of our best architecture to a dim memory status..The 1930 version would do well to have its picture displayed in this lovely bldg.I'm sure it is. Beana,
The 1930s addition is displayed in the first 3 photos, it's the building on Fire!

MoCat, If I had to pick just one I think I would go for the 1930's terminal just to keep within the spirit of the other 1931 Air Tour sceneries. Although, if a majority of our other members would rather have the new terminal it wouldn't break my heart. I mean, come on, that 1940's terminal is pretty sweet looking. If I could have the best of both worlds? Wouldn't it be fun to have the old terminal appear up until the date of 1940 and have the newer terminal appear after that date. (Don't roll your eyes up at me MoCat! I'm just brainstorming.. ) Bill

Yes Mocat,I gather,...quante structure. "PRIMATEVE TERMANALS" lol, Good example of "Depression Art" I guess? However, Art deco in most forms is great. In the end whichever you do choose to "Immortalize", would be be just wonderful, and apprcieated!....Best Regards VIN!

In the spirit if the national air tour, I would say use the one that was there before they built the new terminal.

OK, OK,
Here's what I'll do......I make two models on for before 1940 and one for after 1940. I'm going to do this because I think alot of people will use the scenery for both time periods. It will work just like the special scenery does for "The National Air Tour".
Therefore, I think we have an agreement.....
Best Wishes!
