BEAUTIFUL!!!! Unfortunately I have the old Trainz 2004 version and haven't gotten the 2006 version yet. I just might have to upgrade one of these days. (smile)
Thanks for the pictures Keith.... sure hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do!
Best wishes,

I already am having fun with it Steve and I am sure I will enjoy it for some time to come. I wonder if a 2008 version is coming any time soon?

I've REALLY enjoyed these past couple of days messing with Trainz and exploring. I can see already that many hours will be killed learning all the secrets this Murchison scenery has to offer. I'd be in there right now but promised the wife I'd get the garage cleaned out today. Oh well..... there's always later. Best wishes,

....I wonder if a 2008 version is coming any time soon? No. Auran shed a major part of its workforce a few weeks ago, holding on to a small number of programmers and 3D artists for support purposes only. I seriously doubt if we'll be seeing any further work on the Trainz series. Bruce

Oh well, at least I have the 2006 version. MS is suposed to be launching the new Train Sim sometime this summer but I cringe to see what hardware it will require. I like train sims but I am not that much into them to want "as real as it gets" in the train department.

Nice pictures, Keith. Glad to hear that you're enjoying Trainz. I've been using TRS2006 for a year now and have enjoyed it a lot. I'm sad to hear that there probably won't be a new Trainz comming out.

There is also a company called Kuju Entertainment that puts out a train sim called Rail Simulator. I've only just found out about them not too long ago, so I don't know how good their simulators are, but their pictures look very promising. www.railsimulator.com/

They were involved with the version of MSTS2 that was canceled, and it is likely that Rail Simulator is the results of that involvement.

Tom, is MSTS2 the one that was suposed to be released in the summer of 2008? It's a bit confusing, but Kuju & Microsoft were planning an MSTS2 a couple years ago. The deal fell through and Kuju have recently released their own Train Sim. Meanwhile Microsoft Aces Studio are building a new MSTS2 using the engine from FSX. I would expect it in the fall if Aces continue their practice of of releasing half finished games. (I know, that was a cheap shot.) Kuju's Rail Simulator is here: www.railsimulator.com/MSTS2 is here: www.tsinsider.com/en-US/Pages/default.aspx

Thanks for the links Tom.... very interesting indeed. I'm very much interested in MSTS2.... even more so with the Northfolk Southern engine on it's web-site. (smile) My brother-in-law retires from Northfolk Southern in 3 days. He's worked for them over 40+ years.... probably closer to 50 years as he turned 69 at last birthday and I think he went to work for them pretty much right out of high school. Both web-sites will definitely be something to keep an eye on.
Cheers,

Thanks for the info, Tom. I hadn't known that. I had heard something a while back about another company having been the one to develop MSTS, but had forgotten about it. As the designers of MSTS, their new sim may very much be worth looking into. Just knowing that they did MSTS makes Rail Simulator likely to be worth getting when it's released here in the U.S.

Kuju's is being backed by Electronic Arts and I believe, but can't be sure, that the GB/European version has either been released or is about to be released. The US version, which includes some different locomotives and 'stock (and routes), is due for a later release. Auran did something right back in 2000. We always knew that the editor/creative suite was far more user-friendly and intuitive than the tools packaged with MSTS. Proof of the fact is that Rail Simulator has adopted the Auran style and word has it that MSTS II (or TSX) follows the same path. The creation of a route in MSTS is the very definition of the word "tedious". Bruce

This is one of the things that drew me to Trainz, I'm glad to hear that other train sim designers are also following Auran's lead.
