Well, Tara's dad, I reckon you'll just have to get an external USB-connected HDD to move all that other stuff onto. Seriously - I didn't have room on my laptop for FS9, FSX, Grand Prix Legends and Train Sim, plus all the application stuff I use. So I bought an external unit (350Gb) and moved the games onto it....plus archived stuff. I found that FS9 and GPL run perfectly fine from the remote unit but that Train Sim suffered from caching pauses of several seconds. I moved it back to the laptop and the problem went away. Regards, Bruce

I have FSX and two FS9 installs right now. I actually have a good USB external housing, just needs a decent drive to go in it.
The Pocahontas Div. is one of the add-ons I most enjoyed. It covers a lot of the old C&O route, and I kind of inherited my dad's C&O obsession. He grew up in West Virginia coal country and saw big C&O coal drags just about every day. All I've been waiting for is a good H-8 Allegheny for MSTS and for me to somehow figure out how to build my own sceneries. Someone needs to do the Hinton-Bluefield run once that loco is available.

I just want the Rivarossi HO Allegheny. Still way too pricey at $320 to $400 when it can be found.

I'm not sure of the copy procedures Kevin used to do this, but is there a difference and/or problem in creating a 'new' consist or is it better to copy and replace the current consist. And, in doing either, how and why do the service files have to be edited, as Kevin mentioned? Newbie questions . . . Sorry to hear that the program didn't fix your unpacker. At least you got it working with the uncompressed files. Editing the service files are just my way of getting around using the Activity Editor. After making new consists for the activity, I open up the service files and change the consist name inside the file. I don't change the names of the service files themselves because like Bruce said, that would make them unusable. Here's a rundown on how I do it; First I open up the user service file for the activity to get the consist name. Here is an example from the user service file (default_cedar-bluff_player.srv) with the consist name in bold; Service_Definition ( Serial ( 4 ) Name ( DEFAULT_cedar-bluff_player ) Train_Config ( d9gds ) PathID ( NS_cedar-bluff_williamson ) MaxWheelAcceleration ( 0 ) Efficiency ( 0.95 ) TimeTable ( After I know the name of the consist, I went to the consist folder, made a copy of the cosist, "d9gds" and renamed the copy to, "NS_d9gds" Now I use Conbuilder to change the locos in the new consist to NS stock. Last I go back to the service file and change the name (in bold below) to the name of the new consist and save the service file. Service_Definition ( Serial ( 4 ) Name ( DEFAULT_cedar-bluff_player ) Train_Config ( NS_d9gds ) PathID ( NS_cedar-bluff_williamson ) MaxWheelAcceleration ( 0 ) Efficiency ( 0.95 ) TimeTable ( Then I repeat the procedure for the AI Traffic service files. Personally I find this to be easier than using the Activity Editor, but that may just be me. PS: If you give this a try be sure to back up any files you change first just in case.

Hi All, I have a problem trying to install the NS Pocahontas route. I get a couple error msgs: Failed to open file Textures/acleantrack1.ace The second one says failed to initilize heading tape. any ideas? I installed twice and still the same. I see no acleantrack1.ace file in the basic texture file.
Meryl EDIT: The files I mentioned above are in the routes/pocahontas/ texture files. Also I am running VISTA OS but dont see how that would make a difference. However!! LOL

Meryl, Have you downloaded the free ScaleRail enhancement from 3DTrains (www.3dtrains.com)? That will have its own acleantrack1.ace.
Another thing you can do is just copy another such file from one of the other routes.....or even the default from ...Global\Textures.
Afraid I can't help on that "Initialize Heading tape". I've never ever seen that message.

Bruce, as a follow-up to the testing of the NS Pocahontas activity, I'm way behind as far as completing the route. Atlanta got hit with a number of tornadoes over the weekend starting Friday night and all day Saturday - total of 15-19 of the crazy things all over North Georgia. So, even though we didn't get hit directly, the computer was unplugged during the whole time, and I've had little time to do any simming. I did manage to create a new consist with the NS engines and about 50 some NS coal cars, but not sure when I will complete the entire route. So, that all being said, if you need to publish the route, go ahead, as I'm sure it will be fine. You may want to make note of an alternative install, if someone else also has their train sim on another drive, as I have. Kevin, thanks for your instructions on building new consists. I will use it as I progress with MSTS. For this activity though, I simply created a new NS consist by replacing the original consist with the NS engines and coal cars using the Activity Editor, since I wasn't changing anything else. It loaded fine, even though I've got to replace that default cab with another I just found at Train-Sim - that default cab is really bad . . . Thanks again for your help! Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Dan....no problem. I'll check with Kevin and if he's had no hassles then I'll pop it up on Train-sim.com.
I saw on the TV about those ugly buggers that hit Atlanta and other areas. Honestly, I don't know how you folk have the courage to live with them. We have nothing like that here....the occasional "willy-willy" that blows down a farmer's shed and the even more unusual small super-cell that cuts a swathe through an inhabited area. But tornado's frighten the living daylights out of me.
Glad to read that you're okay, Dan.
Regards, Bruce
