Lately I have been trying to save up enough to make the move to a multi-core computer. With FSXI being pushed off to who knows when, I find that my concerns are for the time being that the new PC will at least run FSX well and not to go overboard trying to prepare for FSXI.
Though my original planes was to go with a Pentium Core2 Duo, I am now also considering other possibly cheaper options.
One of the computer types I am looking at are multi core AMD machines. In the past, I have always felt that AMD CPUs handled MSFS much better than Intel ones, but have been led to believe this may have changed for FSX.
I have been wondering if any here use multi core AMDs and if so it they'd mind sharing how well FSX runs on it? Thanks.

Kevin, The consensus seems to be that Intel rule the processor roost for the moment. Dual or quad core, speed seems to be the thing so look for over 3 gigaHz clock speed and the closer to 4 gig the better. I have an Intel Q6600 that I overclock to 3.3 gigaHz and that is just adequate with 4 gigabytes ram and an Nvidia GF8800GTX.

Agreed, AMD has delivered a quad core but to little notice or excitement. I've also got the Q6600 and it does the job. I need more RAM and I'm temporarily running on an older video card. As a long time AMD fan it kinda hurts but I recommend Intel.

Thanks for the advice. I had a feeling that the Core2s were the ones to go with right now. After reading your advice I think I'll stick with that plan.
I'm currently leaning towards a duo due to my budget, but I've also looked at a nice Q6700 system that wasn't too much higher in price than the duo machines I've looked at.
Originally I was planning on getting a Nvidia 8800 series graphic card, but with the recent drop in Nvidia card prices , I've been planning on getting a 9800 instead.

I still have a little bit to save yet, but the one I am planning on getting, unless I find a better deal by next month is pretty close to what you got. It's a E8300. At the moment, I am planning on staying with Windows XP, so I really don't need a quad at this time, but the motherboard can support core2 quads, so I'll be able to upgrade to one should I decided I wand to get Windows 7.

I ordered the parts to build my new computer today. I decided to go with a Q6700. Not originally what I was planning, but I got a nice deal on it. The graphic card will have to wait until next payday, so I'll have to wait a while to get the full enjoyment of the computer. My real concern is that I want the computer to run Xplane 9 well, but it will be nice if it runs FSX good too. I don't think I need to worry about FS9 running well. My current graphic card plans are to go with either a Nvidia 8800 or 9800, but I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions on any other decant priced cards worth considering?
