Hey guys. I am getting a 24" wide screen monitor today most likely but I am wondering about the format. I was going to get a true 16:9 ration monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080 however, I am wondering if that resolution will be supported by FS9 and other games? I know that 1920x1200 is not true 16:9 (the monitor is not a wide but is a bit taller) but it seems to be a standard "wide screen" size. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know. Thanks.

I had FS9 running beautifully on a 22" at 1680x1050 before my hard drive crash. I have not re-installed it yet. The only distortion was the 2D panel which I don't use.

That would be the same as 1920x1200 (same ration 16:10 rather than 16:9) so I think that answers my question. Thanks Tom. I want to make the right decision. I found that the 24" in 16:9 was not really any biget than a 22" 16:10 ratio. All these choices huh? They seem to spit out new hardware faster than software can keep up. Did you find the 22" easy on the eyes as far as text sizes at 1680x1050?

I find the text easy to read at 1680. I run a plain background and the old style windows theme. The icons are too large in my opinion but that's not important enough to figure out how to reduce the size.

Yea, I wish you could adjust all that stuff separately as well but you can't in XP or Vista. I hear Windows 7 will allow that though... we will see. I may just go with the 22" rather than the 24". I am trying to make up my mind. At least now I know to go with traditional "PC wide screen" 16:10 ration rather than 16:9 which is more for TV. Thanks Tom.

Hey Keith,
I'm running a Sony 23" at 1920x1280 and love it! I haven't noticed any distortion at all.
Don't know about FS9, however, in FSX there is also a confg. entry under the display settings------ WideViewAspect=True.
Cheers,

Thanks Steve. Yes, but now they are introducing yet another option. Until now a PC monitor widescreen was in 16:10 ratio, but now they are moving to 16:9 ratio. They should just leave well enough alone. I am sticking with traditional 16:10 since I know from you guys that it works. I hear that 16:9 (although being native to TV) is not good for PC.

Good luck on the new monitor. Now that they are down in price, it's in my future plans to get one as well but I have other expenses I have to deal with before I can.
Thanks for the info on the ratios, I'll have to remember to go with a 19:10 as well. I still fly FS9 just as much if not more than FSX.
A thought accord to me that if you have a wide screen tv near your computer, you might be able to plug your computer into it and see how FS9 looks at 16:9.
My HDTV has a vga port on it, but I've never tried running FS9 on it due it being too far from my computer and with too much junk plugged into it for me to want to go through the inconvenience to move it. I'll have to put FS back on my notebook sometime so I can see what it looks like on the HDTV.

Kevin,
I tried and it looks sort of squashed... I went with a 22" 16:10 ration (1680x1050) Acer LCD. My plan is to add another 22" and run dual 22s. Much more screen area than a single 24". Mostly used now for work and video rendering but I am sure that games will work well with twin 22s as well.

I'll have to be sure to get a 16:10 screen ratio too. What you're planning to do sounds like a nice setup. I currently use two full screen LCDs, I like to display the radio stack and gps on the second monitor. My plans for the time being are to replace my main monitor(which is beginning to wear out) with a widescreen one and keep my second monitor to continue to use for the radios and gps.
