I modified the stock EGHH to reflect its use in 1942-3 when used for D-Day preparations. It's been fine for 5 weeks or so but is now covered in buildings & trees, etc & all the green grass has gone. I've removed my modified EGHH but that hasn't improved anything. I'm hoping a reinstall of the stock EGHH will repair the situation. How do I get it show? Thanks.

Hi gypsymoth, I remember a simular problem with an addon scenery. Try deleting the dat files in the addon scenery folder and your mod EGHH folder. Restart FS. FS will build new dat files.

Ok, first, how exactly did you modify EGHH. With just an addon scenery install, or any mods somewhere else?

Hi. I had the default EGHH afcad in Afcad2.21 which I saved to a Hurn folder/scenery folder. I added this in the usual way, & then removed trees & buildings & removed all taxiways so I was left with the 2 runways. It looked great. I then added new taxiways, blast pens, tower, hangars, etc & parked lots of aircraft there from other airfields I've made. I have a nice screenshot but don't see how to add it here, so you could see what I've done. I'm stunned to find all the trees & houses there & all that lovely grass missing. Does this help?
More: I've just discovered at least 6 default airfields covered in trees, etc, & Duxford now has a steel runway, & EGBJ, a large green field airport that I'd modified is also covered in buildings & trees.
I'm wondering if I should start again with a fresh installation?

Have you increased the level of auto-gen since it last worked?

No - I've not altered any settings anywhere. All sliders were to the right & all was A1 untill I noticed the changes a couple of days ago! I have installed a couple of sceneries & unticking them hasn't brought it back to normal. I'm going to compare it all with my backup copy & see if any files are bigger or unusual. Can't think of anything else apart from a reinstallation......

Sounds like a corrupt file or cfg. There are others that know far more about this than I do. A reinstall might be the best thing to do. Good luck.

I've got a fresh FS9 & put GW3 into it. EGHH is the stock airport. But I'm thinking of ditching it all. I'm fed up with FS going wonky every so often & this problem is just the end of what I'm able to put up with. I wouldn't mind if I'd done something stupid but I've not.

Ive had to reinstall FS9 many times over the years. Sometimes I goof up and sometimes the computer does something strange. Now I keep a backup of my GW3 on an external hd for quick reinstalls. It does get frustrating, but stick with it, the enjoyment of flight is worth the effort.

I have re-installed GW3 17 times including twice from a backup. FS9 many more times. It's just a fact of life when you mess with it. I don't know what you did to cause your autogen problem. I have done it a couple times myself and I am still not sure why. One thing to be very careful about: Never edit, alter or save over a default MS scenery file. Always save scenery you make into it's own folder system and activate it separately in the scenery library.

You've lost some exclude files along the way somewhere that were taking out your default autogen. Excludes were very easy to do in FS9 compared to FSX so don't lose heart too soon. My guess is you still have them somewhere as they don't just disappear.

Thanks for replies. I'll be as full & sucsinct as I can be:
I'd not visited EGHH before my weekly backup so the backup copy is corrupted. I'm going to format the backup drive before I back up again to start with a clean drive.
I've had FS9 for 5 yrs & never had to re-install before. I've had 3 computers with a new installation each time. At the moment I've a Dell laptop that I copied GW3 into so that's corrupt too. In this gaming machine I have problems with I've installed FS9 & GW3 after renaming & am copying good files across.
The EGHH in the new GW3 is the default airport with all that lovely grassy expanse that appears in the screenshot I have that disappeared when things went wrong. I checked the afcad & found that was faulty (I got an error message about area 69 & there was a / there.....I had not done that!!) so I'm going to have to redo EGHH in WW2 mode again. All the exclusion files are in the EGHH folder by the way...as far as I can tell all the other 6 faulty airports are OK.
When I modify a default airport I save the afcad into NAME/scenery & then add in the usual way. I currently have 14 WW2 airfields I've made with traffic files. RAF Ibsley has 45 RAF/US aircraft flying in & out of it. EGHH & EGBJ were the only two that showed lack of grass & had trees & buildings all over the place. They're OK right now except I'll have to redo EGHH taxiways & hangars areas, etc.
The odd thing was - the amount of trees, etc was 10 times what I'd seen before so I suspect the default airports weren't showing up properly as they must cover trees/buildings up?. EGKK Gatwick was a real mess.
There we are = I'll format the external drive & do a back up with things looking good, unless you can think of something else!
