A few weeks ago, I got in touch with the makers of Outerra. I followed Outerra for quite some time, watching the video's on YouTube.
Outerra is a World Engine, not a flightsimulator. But if somebody, after release, want to make a fligtsim, it can be done. I somebody else loves to see trains, or the combination of both, it can be done.
If people of the Golden Age of Aviation want to go to the trainstation by A-Ford , then hop over to a steamtrain which brings you to the airport , were you grab your Trimotor, wel... ;D
It's somewere between Alfa/Beta at this moment. As a betatester I can do a bit of flying in a Cessna, I can drive a Tatra truck, and there is some sort of 'Slew' mode with which I can check the world looking for bugs to report to the Outerra makers.
What's so special about Outerra? It's hard to find words to describe that. Wel, take a look at this movie {And make it Full Screen!}
It's still a world without climate or seasons but you can see the potential it has. The first night of testing, I stopped at the seashore and watched the waves tipping over at the beech. 15 minutes.. maybe 20. Could be longer. I can't remember.
Watch this Tatra truck and especially the wheels!
Watch the shadow under this Cessna!
And watch how you can seamlessly approach Earth from outer space!
Here's Outerra's website: outerra.com/
Here's an interview witch one of the makers: battle.no/portal/component/content/article/8-nyheter/spill/3-outerra
And his Outerrablog: outerra.blogspot.com/
On the website you'll see more movies and screens.
A Worldsim.. Isn't that what we always wanted? Flying in the smoke of the exhaust of a steamlocomotive? ;D
