I stuck the new mobo, AMD processor and memory into my PC yesterday and I've now got Windows 7 running (so far anyway.. ) without freezing or crashing. And swipe me and knock me down with a feather, FSX runs too - and with decent anti-aliasing and anisotropic settings as well. I couldn't afford a 'proper' upgrade that would have given me some really improved stats so my FSX isn't running much faster than it was in XP. But then again, I hardly ever fire it up nowadays so I wouldn't have been able to justify shelling out a bundle of cash anyway. So I'm now just running an AMD FX 8-core processor running at 4 GHz (a bit more as I've clocked it up a bit, not too much as it's really hot here at the moment and I'm only using the standard cooler) with 8 gB DDR3 memory (shucks, it appears Win 7 32 bit can still only see 3 gB ). That'll do me for a while and it's just a relief to at last be off XP and sitting in front of a screen that's not constantly flashing and turning all sorts of colours. Hey ho Roger

Cheers guys. Yup, it's all still holding together so far. No bits dropping off yet. I'm mildly surprised after my previous experiences. Another benefit is that with AMD's 'cool and quiet' technology, my computer is now hardly making a sound while it used to roar away before. The exception is when I start to run anything that's highly graphics orientated like FSX. When I fire that up the fans on my graphics card kick in and it sounds like a mini turbo-jet engine starting up Roger

Quick update. I'm very pleased (and quite surprised I might add) to say that in an idle moment yesterday evening I cut back the anisotropic and antialiasing values slightly in my graphics card's 3D settings. I found that the graphics quality of my FSX was unchanged but my frame rate became a solid 20fps even in the UK2000 scenery I have installed with lots of AI, ground traffic, buildings etc in which it was crawling before. I say 'surprised', in fact I'm amazed. This is the best quality FSX I've ever experienced and really, for not a great investment for my AMD 8 core processor, inexpensive new mobo and 8gB DDR3 memory compared to what many other simmers have spent. My machine is now also rock-solid stable, quick to boot and shut down and incredibly quiet compared to when I had my old Intel set up. I'm a happy bunny at last Roger

Thanks Bruce, maybe you could put my name around in Yamba in case there are any Silver Surfers who are having problems with their computers. I never walk out of the door unless the customer is completely satisfied Roger
