........the builders have started on reconstruction work after the bedroom fire on November 7th.!! Three months....thanks to the summer holidays causing delays. The room was gutted last week and this morning they returned to re-sheet the walls and ceiling, fit a new window and do the external cladding. Painter should be in next week (to do all walls and ceilings throughout due to smoke damage), followed a week later by the carpets and window furnishings (ditto...smoke damage). We have to be out of our rented accommodation by February 28th......so I hope everything goes to plan! Fingers firmly crossed.

Thanks, Roger. We are getting there, albeit rather slowly! On another note.....my desktop PC failed last week - everything points to it being the power supply as each time I tried to start the unit, it would try to get going but then konk out. So I found and ordered a new one (eBay), which won't arrive at least until Friday. In the interim in an effort to maintain internet access - particularly for email - I dragged out an old Asus notebook thingy...an "Eee PC". I bought it about 8 years ago and have rarely used it.....once, on a work trip through the Snowy Mts. back before I retired (2012). It's as slow as a wet week and utterly hopeless for even the most basic email operations....typing a note takes forever and as for send/receive.....go and have dinner! So totally frustrated I bit the bullet this morning and went out and bought a new HP all-in-one desktop thing which has 1Tb drive space, Windows 10 (new to me), four USB ports - 2x3.0 and 2x2.0 and, most importantly, a DVD drive. With my music "stuff", that essential. Here's the guff:- www.computershopper.com/desktops/reviews/hp-all-in-one-desktop-20-c010#product-reviewIt's pretty low-key - essentially a laptop in a desk-mount - but inexpensive and 100 times faster on the 'net than the Asus Eee PC. And there is an upside....two screws detach the "quadpod" (as distinct from "tripod") base and the unit can then be packed into a large accessory bag if needed on a trip. Another plus was that within twenty seconds of placing it on my desk and turning the power on I was connected to the internet and catching up on emails. But when my beast is restored to operating status I will be using it for gaming/simming. Cheers!

Are you a betting man Bruce? Whenever I've had what I thought was a power supply failure it has always turned out to be a motherboard fault and I've ended up upgrading to a new motherboard and processor and using the new more powerful power supply with those. Trouble then is the 'new' PC runs so much better than before you end up then buying faster memory to match the new motherboard and a better graphics card to make it even better!! But what the heck, it's only money.. Roger

Quite on the cards, Roger.....but I had to start somewhere and the P/S was an obvious point. I've had them collapse before now so it's a 50/50 chance, I s'pose. I'll find out later this week.
