I don't know whether this is the right place to post this, or not, but here goes. I'm fairly new to Flight simming and to PCs, for that matter.
I'd like to Flatten an area in Central Illinois that has a landing strip on top of it that I know is incorrect since I lived near there for about 50 years.
I'm sure that instructions must be available about how to accomplish this, but I don't know where to begin to look. I'm not looking for someone to do this particularly, but rather to learn how so that I can do it on future projects.
I have the coordinates bounding the area and the elevations (MSL) for the surrounding land and the plateau.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You don't say here whether you have mesh or scenery enhancements installed but I can tell you that is a relatively common thing in FS. The default water is so inaccurate that some fields have been placed at bad locations and altitudes as well. Bear Valley in Washington is in a hole, Blue Hill in Maine is on a plateau and if you really want amusement go look at 44B Anyway, to alter the base altitude of a default airfield is beyond my skills. Perhaps someone will see this that knows, but I recommend the forums at FS Genesis. There are several earth movers who post there. portal.fsgenesis.net/ Forum button is upper right

Would a straight forward flatten switch work here? If so I have a tutorial that I could send by e.mail.

I don't think it will change a default airport

It may leave the runway elevated above the newly flattened ground but couldn't AFCAD take care of this?

I have been unsuccessful using flattens and AFCAD at 07B which is on a plateau with 38m mesh installed. I think Holger Sandmann knows how but not sure. He hangs out at FSG sometimes

As you suggested, I went to the FSG Forum. One of the first posts directed to fstraveler and Steve Greenwood's FSFlatten utility. It works great, except as noted above, it leaves the runway at its former location (i.e., 200' in the air). Guess I'll go back to FSG again and post to see if you can also "flatten" the airport.
Thanks for the help guys.

I'll need to look into that myself. And using AFCAD2 might lower the runway. I have just never been able to get the ground to flatten with Airport for Windows

AFCAD2 didn't lower the runway for me. It appeared as a semi-transparent strip of grass 200' above the ground. A procedure which apparently does work on default airports is described at: www.jonpatch.ca/flightsim/readme_ap1514rw.PDFI haven't tried it yet. Seabreeze

Thanks, I knew one of the FSG regulars had a method. I didn't store it away as I had no need for it then.
