If anyone is looking for a nice road (or flying) trip. Next weekend on the Sunday 11th (Yes, Patriots Day) there will be a Fly-in at the Basin Harbor Airport in Vergennes VT. I went to it 2 years ago and had a blast. Nothing like standing 30 feet from landing and departing aircraft. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, it's also the home to the Lake Champlain Maritime Muesum. The Host facility is the Basin Harbor Club which has one of the best golf courses in VT as well as an excelent resturant. And for us... a 3000 foot grass strip. Here's some shots I took 2 years ago when I went. Brian

Cool pix Brian, and I have fond memories of the Basin Harbour Club, I worked there one summer during college, as a waiter, bread and butter boy and other jobs as assigned by the sou chef. It was a glorius summer, lots of great weather and scenery, and airport close by and lots of college girls working during their summer holiday. Many fond memories of a great spot.

What college did you attend??? UVM, MIddlebury??? It is indeed a terrific spot. There is also usualy a classic car and boat show as well during the fly-in.
It is indeed a bit of a hike for most of the forum members (Heck it's at least 6 hours for Tom, I'm almost an hour and a half away) but well worth the trip. Also the trees may be changing by next weekend as well since I'm already seeing the odd tree here and there turning orange.

I'll be 3500 miles away on the 11th I'm afraid. I'm missing the Moosehead Lake Seaplane Fly-in too.

One of these days I gotta get up there to Moosehead for SPPA Fly-In. It's just that 8 hour drive that is keeping me away. Heck, Bangor is almost 6 hours for me. I did it a few years ago when the Maine Air Guard had their open house and airshow. The Blue's were great as was Sean Tucker. I was kinda suprized to see the RAF VC-10 tanker on the ramp as well.
Isn't the 10th and 11th the Great State of Maine airshow at Brunswick NAS too?

I'll be looking at Cable Cars and boats and steep hills instead of airplanes. Although I understand KSFO has a nice museum.

Brian, No not one of the Vermont institutions, I was in college at Erskine College, in South Carolina. There were several of us there from the South, and I knew at least 3 other Erskine students at the time who were there.

These are the kind of shows that I can't wait to see!! My wife and I are selling the house, buying a fifth wheel and are going to travel the country for 1-2 years. I hope to plan our travels to arrive in areas for airshows and flyins. I am also an Air Force vet (hey Kofi!!) and hope to visit AF museums as well. We were hoping to be on the road by now but for some reason have not been able to sell the house. If anyone wants to relocate to Idaho in the shadow of both the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, I have a 3600 Sq. Ft. home on one acre for a great price!!! ;D ;D
