I know it's not a classic, but we just delivered the Adam A500 s/n#5, the first customer plane! Time for me to go build the rest of them!
Adam Aircraft Announces First Customer Delivery of A500 Twin-Engine Piston Aircraft
Company Elected as Newest GAMA Member
Orlando, FL-November 8, 2005 —— During the 58th Annual National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Annual Meeting & Convention, Adam Aircraft announced the first customer aircraft delivery of the A500 centerline piston-engine twin aircraft. Serial Number 005 was delivered to a Colorado Springs business executive on Monday, November 07, 2005.
"This is great news for the firm. Adam Aircraft has moved from a developmental startup company that makes experimental aircraft to a FAA certified manufacturer that is delivering standard airworthiness aircraft," said Rick Adam, Chairman and CEO of Adam Aircraft. "Additionally, we are very pleased that the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) Board of Directors has unanimously voted Adam Aircraft into its national trade association which represents the leading general aviation manufacturers."
The delivery announcement follows the Approved Production Inspection System (APIS) certification by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This allows Adam Aircraft to accelerate production of the A500 by inspecting its own aircraft under a system approved by the FAA. An APIS designation essentially substantiates that Adam Aircraft quality systems and procedures are mature and effective enough for reduced FAA oversight. APIS is the precursor to a Production Certificate (PC), which is the approval to manufacture and deliver duplicate aircraft under an FAA-approved type design with periodic FAA audits of the production process.
"Our first customer delivery and the APIS certification represent major steps toward our goal of delivering six A500s every month," continued Adam. "Following Type Certification, the FAA allows six months to achieve APIS designation, and we achieved that goal in under 90 days. Our quality procedures have proven effective, reducing the review and approval workload, and the firm remains on track for our FAA Production Certificate in the first quarter of 2006."
