We all know Milton Shupe's planes. We all have them in our hangers, and fly them for many hours, tweaked panels, created skins, and countless hours of fun. All of them won the Developer's Award at Flightsim, yes all of them: the Dash7, the Aero Commanders, the Howard, the D18, and the last one,(alas!), the Spartan.
We knew the update for the Dash was his last project in FS. But now he decided not to go on.
"NOTE TO DASH 7 SIMMERS: I know this Dash 7 VC project has been a long time coming and you have been patient. This upgrade has had many hours invested to bring it to today's standards but the standards and high expectations move faster than I can keep up with. We cannot bring you the level of quality we delivered in our D18S, Spartan, and AC520 projects. Therefore, I am discontinuing this project. I apologize but feel the disappointment is better at this stage than if the project was delivered.
I am preparing for retirement and must move forward with my plans in that regard. "
I'm sure you'll pay visit to the TOH from time to time, and every time, we'll say thanks!

I'm sure you'll pay visit to the TOH from time to time, and every time, we'll say thanks! Most certainly we'll say "thanks". This bloke will, that's for sure. There are several freeware creations which I place on my top shelf. I've been here long enough for you all to know that I love Bill Lyons' Piper TriPacer, and the other Bill's Bellanca Viking. If I could have a physical model of each of those two aircraft, finished to the same level of detail, I would be very happy. But sitting up there on that same shelf is Milton's gorgeous package called the Beechcraft D18. I also have the Spartan and if I had enough money to buy one I'd want Milton Shupe's autograph on its flanks, just below the cockpit window. Milton, we all have to "give it away" at some stage, so enjoy your new directions and go with my thanks and appreciative applause ringing in your ears. Bruce.

My grateful thanks to Milton not only for the fantastic airplanes but for the inspiration as well. Like all of us here, I will sorely miss him.

We wish you the very best for your retirement, Milton. Although the exquisite models you have produced are a treasured collection for any flight simmer, it is what you have given beyond that which is treasured the most. For many years you've contributed your talents with a level of generosity and class that has become quite rare in today's world. You've always been quick to offer a word of kindness or encouragement, respectful of others and their opinions, and ready to offer help or technical advice with great patience. In short, you've been a friend to all of us, Milton. Although you're retiring from building airplanes, we sincerely hope you'll continue to find time to hang out at the old Hangar whenever you can.
God Bless and take care,
Wayne

I don't know but in what read I understand that
1- the dash 7 project is discontinued
2- and that M is nowadays busy preparing his retirement, lucky him (still 8 years to go and counting).
Don't see he's retiring from aircraft design in general.Wishful thinking ? Never say never anyway.
Good luck to you Milton and indeed thanks for the 18 and the Spartan that I love to fly.

The community will miss him...I'll miss him, we'll miss that quality that was the hallmark of a Milton product...and the price was always fantastically good value ;D
I sincerely hope that Milton will continue to grace our forums and I wish him a long a fruitful retirement.

Every day for the last ten years or so I have scanned all the usual sites and read all the usual forums. I have downloaded probably hundreds of aircraft of all different types and if somebody sat on me, twisted my arm and forced me to sacrifice the whole lot and keep one aircraft, just one, it would be the D-18 Twin Beech in the original, bare-metal livery.
Enjoy your retirement, Milton.

It's a sad moment when any of our creative benefactors decide to retire. Milton & Company built beautiful aircraft that we all love and can continue to enjoy. Every plane has been a generous gift that keeps on giving each time we load it. Each new generation of MSFS brings new levels of complexity and frankly some of us get to a point where we lack the energy to continue. I made some scenery for FS9 but with FS98 tools. It was not very satisfactory to me. It is not likely I will make any for FSX. I can understand why so many creative people would in the past few months decide to retire. Enjoy your retirement Milton, and know that you will be welcome here in these forums should you want to share our company.

Wow..... I too am sadden and shocked to read such news, however, in the same breath I must say a heartfelt "THANK YOU" for the many hours given to my obsessive hobby.
As many of Milton's Friends have also said..... My hanger will forever be filled with Milton and Company's finest work in FS.
Milton..... if you read this please know that there is an old Navy saying given with the Highest Regards in which I now say to you!
"Fair Winds and Following Seas" my friend........
God Bless!
Sincerely,

This is really sad for us - but good for Milton. I've been out of town and just noticed this thread. I'm disappointed about the Dash-7, but fully understand. As many have said here - we've got all of Milton's other incredible creations to last a lifetime - and - the Dash-7 is still an excellent plane to fly. The very best to you Milton and thanks for all the memories!! I can still remember last summer (05) - staying up all night for the release of the original Beech D18S - ah, what a great night that was!! ;D ;D Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

As Tom said, it's sad for us when the great lights of FS design move on - those who have produced my favourite FS aircraft. But let me also thank Milton for his superb aircraft and his kindness in sharing them. I anticipate staying with FS2004 (and GW3) for quite some time and you'll be right there in my aircraft of choice. Whilst I wish you a long and happy retirement, I'll also hope that one day, you'll surprise us with "just one more!"

I can't say anything better than what has been said above, but I just wanted to add my voice to the chorus. Milton, thank you! You've definitely got a spot in the Freeware Hall of Fame!

Milton has given us some of the very best FS addons and I will miss seeing his name attached to future projects. I do understand though how fast the "normal expected quality" changes these days (as Milton said, faster than most can produce a single protuct) and sometimes it's best to know when to say when. Best wishes to you Milton!
