I know, this sounds like a stupid question but XP will not allow me to rename the Flight Simulator 9 folder. It keeps saying that access is denied. I have tried removing the Read Only attribute but it just keeps re-protecting itself. Any ideas?

Never seen that happen Phil- Do you have admin power on the machine? Be sure FS is closed of course and make sure you don't have a readme or anything opened in explorer. Anything like ASV needs to be shut down. Try a reboot and do the rename first thing

I'm running XP home and didn't have a problem with renaming it or naming it back to the original

Interesting... Yes, I am admin. It may have been because I had the folder compressed in XP. I decompressed it but still can not rename the folder. I'll report back if I figure anything out.

Phil, Try rebooting your machine first. Sometimes XP thinks programs are still open and won't let you rename folders. Can't hurt!, Bill

Thanks Bill and all. That's exactly what it was. I finally got a chance to reboot between doing other work and all has gone well. Installed FSGW and all of my Lyons' Classics and am going to try to squeeze in a flight before bed. Anybody tried installing FSNav, FSUIPC or ActiveCamera in the FSGW install yet? Just wondering if it is possible to have multiple installs of these programs.

Hi I got a bit confused about this and left my GW3 icon as 'shortcut to fs9'. The main fs9 icon shows 'Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004' as it always has. Everything works fine but I have found that I needed to have the same default flight on both sims for some reason, I use the 'Jenny'. Not being to good at these things I thought it's best to leave well alone as it works. This is probably not any help - but I thought I'd mention it ! roly

Roly,
Sounds like you missed or forgot the instruction about changing the fs9.exe file name. (step 4 in the install instructions). Because of this the 2 installs are sharing a common .cfg file, thus a common default flight.
Goto your FS Golden Wings main folder and find the fs9.exe file. Rename the file to fsgw3.exe. This 'forces' Golden Wings to create it's own .cfg file (fsgw3.cfg), thus can have it's own default flight.
Then, delete your current desktop shortcut to Golden Wings and create a new shortcut to fsgw3.exe file which will be called 'shortcut to fsgw3'. Once created, you can rename the shortcut to your preference by right clicking on it and selecting 'Rename'.

Dave Have followed your advice but when I loaded gw3 I got the message 'Aircraft initialization failure Cessna Skylark 172sp' and it closed. I guess it was looking for that aircraft so I copied it from the main fs9 - All ok I can live with that - Had to set up GW3 as you do when you load fs9 from new, assignments, settings, etc and now have shortcut to fsgw3.exe and different default flights. Many thanks roly

Roly, Yes, the C172 should remain in the Golden Wings aircraft folder. (That's why it wasn't in the list of aircraft to delete.. ) It is the aircaft required at start up until you create/save your own default flight, and also if you should ever delete your default flight or the aircraft for your default flight. Hi Dave
Yes, have just had my morning cup of tea, 8am here, and after some thought about it I half expected you to tell me that . . .!
Super flight yesterday - RAF Duxford to RAF Tinwall Down, Scotland in the Coastal Command Whitley . . . 222 miles, real weather, head wind 30 kts, snow on the ground, time 2 hours, 11000 feet, just above cloud and forming contrails . . . super !
A big thank you to everyone who makes all these things for us.
Roly
