I knocked this up in an hour or so this morning using Airport for Windows & MDL2BGL- due to a problem with some of the scenery for Imperial Airways and to show what you can do quickly using Bill's macros - it's not 100% accurate or perfect but is better than nothing - have a go at your favourite place! p.s. I don't suppose it's possible to change the flag to a British one is it?

There are some flag macros which include one for the Union Jack. They can be used in Airpot for Windows. I have them somewhere on one of my hard drives but cannot find them at the moment Maybe they are on Frank Betts site or on Avsim

Great!!!! Glad someone is making scenery for GW and especially using the building blocks I will put a macro version in the next update that has no flag so you can swap it out in your scenery! As Scruffy Duck says I think there are flag macros for most countries available to use. Golden Wings was made for non purist folks like myself who wanted a place in flightsim to fly their old planes for the thrill of just flying like they did in those golden years and to make it even close to 100% accurate is beyond the ability of these old tired hands.. I thought of it as more an environmental endeavor so hopefully simmers would step up and have some fun redoing their favorite places to 1930s or so specs. Those helpful people who like to make laundry lists of the shortcomings of GW perhaps would be more at home in their regular fs2004 installations or do as you have done and contribute a little of the dreaded "W' word to making it closer to the way they want it to be. My congrats to you, sir I plan on only making one or two more small updates as there are still a few textures that I'm not happy with and then it will be up to you... I will be just like everyone else looking for great old time sceneries and planes to fly in them , Best, bill

Well I don't understand what goes on with computers sometimes!! - I just removed VFR Terrain from my GW3 setup and the position of Southampton dock from the original package is O.K. (HOWEVER NOT THE BERTH THEY WERE USING IN 1938!) and my add-on is of course in the wrong place! When i tried this before after removing VFR terrain the River seemed to have disappeared! Now it is OK!!
Anyway the main package seem to work O.K. and I could rework the other ad-on scenery I did - to fit in with the default mesh -although I prefer VFR Terrain mesh - so just a warning if you use add-on meshes they will screw things around!

It's an ongoing problem especially with sea plane bases and I find it is generally caused by Landclass rather than mesh. For example in Florida Dinner Key is fine with the default. Add in Ultimate Terrain and it is now half under water. Replace it with USA Roads etc (with enhance stream turned on) then Dinner Key is a quarter of a mile inland. It generally does not matter so much with land based airstrips unless you are trying to place it close to a land feature such as a road or river. The problem you may get with mesh is that the airfield in no longer at ground level. I have decided to do all my scenery using the default mesh/landclass that comes with GW3. I will then check the sensitive ones - especially the sea plane bases in Ultimate Terrain and USA roads. I will also check with the standard mesh and also FSGenesis mesh for Florida. The only way round it is that I know of right now is to release different bgl files depending on the addons included - not terribly efficient

Thanks Jon - I was doing some scenery up in the Lake District - my private liar kind of thing! - and the scenery is just so bad with the default mesh! - I was wondering as an alternative to the payware VFR Terrain (which I use along with VFR Photography in FS9) do you know a good freeware UK Mesh that I could use in GW3 -then if I make any scenery to put in the public domain others will be able to use it without cost?

Not off hand. In any case I would develop in the default then test it with the VFR Terrain installed. If you have flattened the airport then it may be fine. I'll have a dig about in any case and let you know if anything turns up

Thanks SD - I found some on flightsim.com - Ed Dennys 90m STRM mesh - makes the Lake District look a little more like the Lake District - just a few lakes need flattening -the old rising lake phenomena - and doesn't seem to mess up any of the other UK scenery I have installed in GW3 and best of all it's free!!

If you are looking for some good Freeware SRTM Mesh for many parts of the World do a Search at Avsim.com for either of these 2 names "Andy Wier" (UK Mesh) or "Andy Weir" , the only difference in the name is a Typo on my part when I uploaded all the Mesh Files.
Cheers Ian
